Walk In wardrobe design

We have space in our master bedroom to install a walk in wardrobe. The space is approximately 10ft x 6ft. Does anyone have any tips on how to divide up the interior storage? Will I have enough space to have a walkway in the centre? Would you install a small radiator inside or on the outer wall and any suggestions for lighting.

My walk-in is slightly longer (1.60x3.60m) - I only have the design with measurements on paper, but I could look for it this evening, scan it and post it for you if you want.

In the meanwhile, have a look at the photos of the finished room. We took advantage of the height and got pull down rails; also, a big shelf above the door and narrow shelves on the side. I wouldn't get a radiator in there, or at least not a classic one - have a look at some towel warmers - their output is normally good enough for a room that size, plus you can use it to hang stuff on it: http://www.nevellidesignerradiators.co.uk/Elvina-Designer-Chrome-Towel-Radiator---Reina/232.htm

Lighting, I think the best are directional track lights, e.g: http://www.wayfair.co.uk/Track-Lighting-C1802193.html?itemsperpage=96&sortby=6&curpage=1

Otherwise, just search 'compact walk-ins' in Houzz phots. Hope this helps.

Thanks Luciana that's really helpful. Would have liked rails/ shelves on both sides but I think the depth would be too narrow. The plan would be great.

Sorry, I just got back, so I'll have to postpone looking for those papers for tomorrow. Also, I'll have a look at the plans for the walk-in in our loft; it has units on both sides, so your 1.8m could be ok (sorry, I don't do inches and feet).

My advice is to have a chat with someone from Sharp or Sigma 3, or even Homebase - they have their planners who can tell you what would be the best layout for the room. Even if you don't buy from them, I think first appointment is free or you can pay them only for the plan.

    Hi again,

I've been through all the places where these plans could be and just can't find them. I found the ones for the loft, but not the ones for the main bedroom.

In case the drawings aren't too clear, I'll explain it to you: the loft room is 2m wide, there's about 90cm in between the units; each unit is 53cm wide. From what I remember, the planner who came to talk to us said that the minimum distance between units should be 80cm. For the rails, as a hanger is about 40cm long, the distance between the wall and the rail should be no less than 24cm, making a unit about 48cm wide.

I hope this makes sense. I measured the space in between the units and shoe shelves in the main walk-in, it's 90cm.

Again, hope this helps - good luck!

That makes great sense. Thanks for your help and the time you spent looking for the plans.
