Need help on Desk Colour!

Hi guys,

Am currently living in an apartment in Singapore. Have just refurnished my room. The floor is laid with white tiles, i have a white bed frame and a cabinet with white glossy sliding doors. The wall colour is white as well. Which colour should I get for my desk, should it also be in white? My computer will be placed on the desk. Almost every portion of my PC is black (speakers, monitor, keyboard etc.)

If you can get a white desk that's a similar white to your wall then I think it would be a nice clean look. Black is going to be too heavy and it will show every speck of dust! If you want something different, then maybe a chrome base with a thick glass top would add some sparkle and shine. But only if you're extremely tidy! :)

Thanks for your comment. The chrome base with glass top is a great idea. Am thinking how about a beech coloured desk? Will it too intrusive?

One refinement on the all white solution: get three distinct whites for walls, ceiling, and trim. While you are considering marine-gloss magenta for the dining room, you will feel less as though you are a prisoner in a stark white box. Benjamin Moore has some lovely, non-stark whites and off whites in their classic whites group. Hello there :) Nice design by the way. Perhaps you can: 1. Change the door panels only. Keep the existing shape & the cupboards, the carpenter can 'update' the doors with different handles too (like image above). 2. Spray paint is more $$$ but I think it is longer lasting. 3. Laminated is less $$ but as we all know it chips & eventually the laminate comes out (wear & tear). 4. Unless you want the inside of the cabinet to be changed from existing white to a different colour, then the carpenter have to dismantle everything & redo. So more $$$$ Hope this helps & Happy shopping!

Hi again. I see where Dytecture is going with this. It's hard to say, really, because the only existing colour you mentioned was white. Once you put something coloured or dark in the space, your eye will zoom past the white and look at the colour or the visual weight of the piece.

When I was recommending something white or colourless (glass and metal), I had in mind that you probably don't want to make the desk your only feature. I would recommend having your desk as a functional piece that blends with the decor, but I would definitely add punches of colour elsewhere.

Large colourful artworks on the walls, a couple of bold colour-blocked cushions on the sofa (see Dytecture's first picture above), a grouping of three very tall boldly coloured vases (different heights), and so on. These will give you the pizzazz you're looking for.

In an otherwise white apartment, a dark or coloured desk is still not going to give you much style or impact.
