Need help for curtain color and rug

Hi All,
We need some suggestion for the curtain color. Also the color and shape of the rug and some designing tips considering our furniture is mostly black and white but would like to add some color.
Attached are pics of the living room...

Hi, Nitikaa! We used your pillows as a jumping-off point to search our area rugs by the color red ( http://www.atgstores.com/area-rugs_610.html?option0=optionA=265687|18968~Valu&page=1) and we found some ideas for you. We posted them below, but would remind you that you can swap out your red throws for something else to counterpoint your black furniture and console with something lighter. Drawing the decor, curtains and rug together by color can be a great way to add depth to your room, which appears to have a contemporary style. We hope this helps and wish you luck!

Thanks for the comments.. Really appreciate it.. Do you think black curtains will look good with red lamps providing enough lighting for cosy env?

If the tile scratched in this location, any paint that you attempted to apply would scratch worse, as well as chip and peel. Ceramic tile is rarely or never painted and I have never heard it attempted on a floor. I wouldn't try it myself for fear of making the situation worse. What about washable, inexpensive cotton rag rugs? They can look very nice and you just throw them in the wash with towels or jeans depending on the color you select. Another inexpensive option would be floating a laminate floor, such as wood look planks.

Thanks for your comments, its great to discuss with houzers! You are so right @decoenthusiaste the view is beautiful and one reason why I chose the apartment. the room is longer than it is wide, and I wanted the kitchen/bar to be included in the seating so the attached pic is how I was planning to lay it out. @cdrdesign I can't/change the table, its a gorgeous mahogany piece I had custom made and one I see keeping for some years yet! I dont plan a TV in this room, will put it in another room. This room in for living and entertaining guests. Sorry I dont have layout software, so you will have to make do with my scribbles using powerpoint! Could really do with help on choosing the light fitting in place of the central fan- what would look nice here or should I wait till the furniture gets here to choose the light to match?

First of all, your floor shouldn't constrain you. You can resolve its impact on the room by placing a large rug on the floor. I would go for a soft shag cream rug so it is textural and literally soft on the eye and feet.Then, with your bed and furnishings around the walls, you can "break" the join between floor and wall and paint your teals or greens... a soft green that veers more to olive than lime could work, as could a soft teal... hard to say without photos...

Of course ... here we go. Let me know if this helps. Patricia, yes, I understand that the drapes will need to be open. IN my case the curtains are less about Privacy, but more about making the room visually higher & covering windows that are not too attractive. (note 1: the landlord's curtains in the picture have been removed)

You're welcome, Nitikaa! We think you should be mindful of not overwhelming the space with black, although perhaps that may be hard to do with white walls and flooring! Perhaps you could something that includes black and brings some other colors into it. Also, we recommend that you give this post a little time to "marinate," because more Houzzers will certainly chime in with great ideas!
