Pool Area Lightings

HI all not 100pc sure whether this question belongs into this forum (if its misplaced - pls apologize). I have an outdoor pool, and the developer placed some light cables in the pool wall right above the water surface height. Sadly, he left it to me to fit the lights. I am not quite sure what sort of lights to install; sadly drilling deep is not an option so have to be wall mounted lights. Do you think the lights will have to be waterproof (IP65), or will IP 54 suffice? What will happen if I install non-waterproof lights and they come in contact with the water? Is there a risk of electrocution? I would be very grateful for any suggestions Cheers

I think they did a dirty trick on you. It should not be your duty to find appropriate lighting. I am not a professional but I would want water proof lights. It looks like you cannot have recessed lights. I have seen many shallow square or rectangular lights that would be suited for you.
When my parents needed a replacement for their ordinary underwater light I went to a pool supply store. That is what I suggest you do. They know everything that is current.

Hi Emmarene; thanks for your suggestion. I am with you that I feel water proof lights is the only way to go here really. Also, you are quite right: recessed lights are not an option (the existing cavities are not deep enough, and contractors are rightfully apprehensive about drilling deeper as they fear they may affect the wasterproofing).

The lights you are suggesting - flat square/rectangular - is exactly what I have been looking for, but to no avail. Are these specimen that you came across waterproof? Could you kindly send me the link to the sources/vendors if possible?

Hi Few points: 1. It's not an independent residential apartment. It is a flat in a 25storey block 2. I have attached the floor plan for reference. The entrance is not too huge. 3. It's good to know that you guys have liked the Bathroom & kitchen design. The tiling work is in progress and it has come out well. I will take few snaps and post 4. When I say resort look - I understand and mean a simplistic natural looking design. More towards wood, nature, green, matt finish etc... Hope i am not confusing anyone here 5. Do you think the bathroom & kitchen design gels with what I mean by resort look. 6. The foyer area is a small (not too big) entrance. It's like a passage as you can see in the pics I posted earlier. When you enter you don't see the entire living room rather you see the wall (kitchen wall), where we intend to keep our dining table. Some thoughts on designing that wall is also requested Thanks!

Hi 4evazx, I believe that you had given your designer a good and clear brief of your wants and needs and discussed all details with your designer. Your designer has done a great job as i can see from the floor plan and lighting layout. Trust your instinct and have faith in your designer. The only thing i would recommend is that you get your 12w downlight at 4000k. This is a natural daylight glow and is great in apartments. Do post pictures of your apartment when its done. Enjoy the process.

Ceiling lights are for overall brightness and you can control which areas to light up. As for pendant lighting, it is more concentrated so it will not brighten the whole area. I would talk to a professional about this matter! Call your local pool designer to help you find the safe way to complete this project...could be a very unsafe situation if not handled correctly.
