remodeling a 1956" 1 story house with walk basement, hate the galley kitchen, would like to change kitchen to an L-shape kitchen.

Really , we need an actual detailed floor plan with all measurments and details like plumbing, windows doors etc.

Hello there :) Nice design by the way. Perhaps you can: 1. Change the door panels only. Keep the existing shape & the cupboards, the carpenter can 'update' the doors with different handles too (like image above). 2. Spray paint is more $$$ but I think it is longer lasting. 3. Laminated is less $$ but as we all know it chips & eventually the laminate comes out (wear & tear). 4. Unless you want the inside of the cabinet to be changed from existing white to a different colour, then the carpenter have to dismantle everything & redo. Hi Alice, that's a really good question - challenging dilemma with a strong limitation (no hacking!) but I believe workable. Would you consider making changes to the backsplash? Adding some strip lighting will help too. Given the pink checkered floor tiles cannot be changed, I'd favour going for very neutral and clean looking cabinetry - to reduce visual clutter and bring in some harmony. Regardless of colour of finish choice, I prefer cabinetry that's not see-through. How about natural wood finishes: All-white with wood countertops might work as well: I leave it to the professionals to give their advice!

Hi Rhonda, i also recently redid my terrace and installed a wet and dry island in my kitchen. As for your floor plan, if you're willing to consider tearing down the maid's room and moving it to the back, it will free up a lot of space for your dry kitchen/dining area. A bit unconventional, but you can also install the island in between the 2 pillars that are in the center. You can then install pot racks or wine glass holders on top of your island. On the other side of the kitchen is the laundry room, door to the garage a powder.
