Check Out This 1840's Historic Renovation

The original
two story historical part of the home was constructed in the 1840’s. The home was renovated and an addition was added in the 1960’s that added the kitchen, den and additional bedrooms.

The design concept of this remodel focused on two main objectives: the first was to restore the home and to repair damage done after sitting vacant for 10 years with a leaking roof. The second objective was to create a modern floorplan to accommodate the needs of a large family.

Exterior Before

Exterior After

All existing siding was stripped down to the bare
wood and repainted. Old, wavy glass was located from various salvage yards to
restore the home’s original windows.

Kitchen Before

Kitchen After

The old
gallery style kitchen was demolished and relocated to the center of the 1960's
addition to the home. It is now the central activity of the home. A keeping
room with a large custom steel door connects to the rear porch and provides an
excellent view of the rear of the farm.

Den Before

Den After

The new den was
relocated where the old kitchen previously was. The designer was able to create
an open floor plan while still keeping the character and materials of the
historical part of the home. The new chimney was constructed reusing the old
stone from the previous chimney.

Master Bedroom

The original living room in the
historical part of the home was converted into a master bedroom.

Second Bedroom

In
this room, drywall originally installed in the 1960's remodel was removed to
uncover the original heart pine walls. These walls were just lightly sanded and
left in their natural state.
