What is the purpose of the very large diameter stove pipe section.

I know that stovepipes get hot, and they need to have double walls through a floor or ceiling, but this seems excessive. Is it possibly a heat- trapping device to recirculate hot air that would otherwise be lost to the outside?

It´s not a heat- trapping device.

There are all flammable materials aound the stove pipe and the distance to the wall is the minimum. So we have stricter safety requirements in this case. To meet these requirements we need a larger diameter for the stove pipe.
