Living Room Help

Hi, I need some help with colour ideas? I feel my living room needs abit of colour Injected into it but I’m too scared to do the whole room so thought about doing a feature wall.

I like Dulux denim drift however I wouldn’t know then what colour to do the fireplace or whether to have the other two walls in a different colour.

Or go for a grey to match the sofas however I don’t want to end up looking too grey (if that makes sense!)

Please help!!

Lovely room and I think Denim Drift is a lovely colour - like the colour of a stormy sea. I personally would do all that wall in it, that is the two alcoves and the chimney breast. It will then make your fireplace stand out beautifully. I think some mustard yellow cushions will really finish it off a treat, but if you prefer a calmer palate then dark grey, blue, silver or blush pink cushions would look great. Thanks for your comments, its great to discuss with houzers! You are so right @decoenthusiaste the view is beautiful and one reason why I chose the apartment. the room is longer than it is wide, and I wanted the kitchen/bar to be included in the seating so the attached pic is how I was planning to lay it out. @cdrdesign I can't/change the table, its a gorgeous mahogany piece I had custom made and one I see keeping for some years yet! I dont plan a TV in this room, will put it in another room. This room in for living and entertaining guests. Sorry I dont have layout software, so you will have to make do with my scribbles using powerpoint! Could really do with help on choosing the light fitting in place of the central fan- what would look nice here or should I wait till the furniture gets here to choose the light to match?

I am aware of a Singapore e-commerce brand called Bed and Basics and you could consider them if you are looking to have a home enhancement or refurbishment in future! They sell an extensive range of furniture and their products are actually really affordable compared to other brands, hence I would highly recommend them. Some of their sofas are in line with what you are seeking (luxurious), so perhaps you could take a look if you are interested!

Firstly, this room is lovely! I really like what forzaitalia has said above but also want to suggest maybe a warmer colour? A seaside feel is lovely but there is a slight risk the room may feel cold.

Farrow and ball have some lovely colours including Hardwick White, Blue Gray, Trenton and French Gray which are more neutral.

Or you could maybe go for a darker blue and just paint the chimney breast (then the fireplace will really stand out). Some other F&B options could include Inchyra Blue or Dix blue.

When it comes to paint these days, the option generally given is Farrow & Ball. There is no doubt that it is a great product, but there are others to consider such as Annie Sloan who has a wonderful paint range called Chalk Paint.

I only discovered this recently and absolutely love it. She has a whole range of other products such as gold leaf, craqueleur, stencils, gilding waxes, etc., all which can be used by adventurous DIYers.

I must admit I also like that wall as it is. Denim drift is quite cool so have attempted (badly) to mock it up for you.

Plants are a good way to add colour and life and there are loads of baskets around ATM that add warmth and texture.

personally I would add a piece of unpainted wood to the back of the tv unit to cover the wires and then tape up the ones on the floor.

Maybe you can share more photos of the room for others to give ideas re cushions, art etc?

Here's my blue chimney breast - the rest of the room is a chalky white with mustard and gold accents. I can't remember the exact name, but it was a period colour by crown. I was worried that it would be cold, but that's not been the case at all. It's a lovely warm shade. However, that is helped by the aspect of the room, which has south and west facing windows, and by using soft lighting in the evenings. We also usually have logs stored in the openings that complement the blue nicely. If you're going to paint just the chimney breast perhaps think about painting the fireplace the same colour as well and consider the other colours and textures in the room.

These are pictures of the rest of the living room. It just looks very plain to me. I’m not keen on the pictures my partner put up either.. and I kind of wished we had gone for a bigger sofa. Suggestions please?

Your pics are nice but they are way too small for that expanse of wall. The grey sofas are really nice, however your cushions and throws just look messy rather than comfortable. Fold the throw over the arm and arrange the cushions across the whole of the sofa.

Add a couple of really bright modern large prints and pop the OH pics on the wall above the white cabinet. Make sure they are placed as a set rather than miles apart as is happening now. Visually it makes them look bigger as a whole if you see what I mean. A couple of this guys prints would inject a lot of colour.

I would also get rid of the rug as it is too small and get a bigger tray to pop on the ottoman/footstool. Perhaps something in a brass?

Farrow and ball do a blue called drawing room blue. maybe put a mir above your console or sofa with a big chunky frame to add some interest or some bright prints. You could always add colour in a rug and add swine plants for pops of green and colour.
