Distance between Vent Hood and Cabinets !

Is it mandatory to keep space between the vent hood and cabinets .
I always see 6" space on either side of the vent hood.
Can we attach the cabinets to hood?

    No it is not mandatory to keep a space between the hood fan and cabinets. Your range or cooktop will have clearences above and to the side that need to be kept.
