Suggestion for day curtains
Comments (6)Hello everyone, thank you for your comments. It is my first time using Houzz forum so I'm pleasantly surprised by the responses. My furniture: I have mainly neutral tone furnitures (white B&B fat fat coffee tables, B&B Solo couch with light grey textured upholstery, Eames LCW chair in birch, an opaque glass rectangular dining table with black metal legs, Starck Lizz white dining chairs, and light brown leather bed frame, Cassina Utreche dark brown leather armchairs, etc) and I spice it up with red/colorful accessories (red Vitra elephant stool, red Vitra ball clock, orange smeg fridge, etc). Hope you don't mind me going into details on the furniture. I hope to give you all an idea of how my space looks like for better advice on the curtains. I prefer curtains to blinds because I find blinds difficult to clean (I prefer to be able to wash my curtains). I agree that grey may not be a lasting colour. My current curtains are off white/beige. I have my day curtains in organza with some designs on it and night curtains in 100% cotton. However, I realize that I do get tired of the print on the day curtains so I want to try a plain one for my new home. In additon, I want more light to come through the day curtains. For the night curtains, I'm trying to avoid cotton since I realize that it shrinks easily (even dry cleaning). My curtain maker says polyester has less shrinkage and are easier to wash and does not trap dust unlike cotton. I'm toying with the idea of the linen like fabric for a slightly different feel but I've not seen this in actual curtains before and I'm worried it may not turn out well. For organza, I know it will be a safe choice. I'm torn between being on the safe side (but almost everyone else will have similar day curtains in our condo) or trying the linen. What do you all think? Will you go for safe off white/beige organza or slightly different off white/beige linen-like fabric? Comments (5)I agree with Carolyn - a new coat of paint can make a world of difference. There's really not too much about the house that 'screams' a certain decade - so you're luckier than lots of us. I hate that teracotta colour on the gable ends personally, and I think that would be good to paint out. I would consider painting al the bits that are currently white a darker more serious colour (grey, taupe etc) and then paint the trim and the entry ceiling white. Also consider painting the roof - as it is a big element and teracotta tile colour doesn't always work with your colour scheme. If you want to make some more permanent changes, you could consider filling in the gable roof lines so they become box gables - and I agree with Carolyn that the entrance roof looks like it is missing a column on the left side....See MoreNeed advise on which theme to design with? Comments (2)sorry don't like the leather sofas or the coffee table. Too chunky and low to the ground. I don't like the break effect next to the greeny yellow wall, I would make it one solod color. I don't know why that stuff is lying on the floor but it looks messy...See MoreNeed help to determine where to place my inbuilt oven
Comments (14)Hi Fred, Thanks for the want of the precise measurements. The U shape area in my kitchen is 64" - 104 - 99" (left - centre - right). Height of the kitchen area is 107". The wall with the fridge has total length of 99" Fridge is 32" wide, 29" deep, 73" high (I bought this fridge on a good bargain but realized it was slightly oversized in this kitchen area, but got to live with it now) The wall beside the fridge is 23" deep I know some gap has to be left between this wall, the fridge and the wall mounted/countertop cabinets for ventilation I guess. So I'd say the cabinets on this wall will have a length of only 63"/64"? The microwave is 18.5 wide, 13" deep, 10.5" high The oven is 24" wide, 24" deep, 24" high. The wall next to the fridge which will have this feature cabinet 42" wide, 110" high which is next to the main door. I'm thinking the feature wall is kind of plain, but it covers up where the fridge is sticking out....See Morewuff
