Houzz Tour: Paintings by Their Daughter Take Pride of Place
The light-filled spaces in this apartment provide the perfect backdrop to the teenager's colourful artwork
Displaying art in the house certainly helps to invigorate its interiors. It adds layers of colour and depth, filling the space with style and personality. It’s no wonder that the homeowners of this three-bedroom apartment wanted their home to have plenty of space to display art and decorative pieces.
The homeowners didn’t have to go far to shop for the right artwork as they have their own ‘artist-in-residence’ i.e., their talented daughter. They also wanted their living and dining spaces to be spacious and conducive for the whole family to hang out together.

Su Eing Chee from D’Perception Ritz designed the home to be spacious and elegant. The light neutral palette sets a tranquil mood in the open-plan living and dining areas. Bright pops of colour, natural woodgrain and lush greenery from the outside enliven the space, making it a welcoming area for the family and their guests.
One of the artworks on display is on the wall in the dining area. Flanking it on both sides are shelves and niches showcasing the homeowners’ crockery collection.
A half-height glass panel subtly separates the dining area from the living room. A large table is the focal point for large gatherings with the cushioned bench seating helping to create a cosy communal atmosphere in the dining area.

A careful selection of upholstery and furnishings complements the homeowners’ existing collection of furniture pieces which was brought over from their previous home.
One of the new pieces in this home is the pair of hexagonal pendant lamps over the dining table. The geometric design gives the space a contemporary look and functions as mood lighting when the overhead ambient lights are turned down.

The layout of the kitchen was reconfigured by taking down some walls and the kitchen now occupies a larger area that can be separated into dry and wet sections. This new layout not only allows an unobstructed passage of light through the home, but also creates a seamless transition between the kitchen and dining area.
The children’s bedroom maintains the same colour scheme of whites and neutral shades as the rest of the home. Customised platform beds allow this space to be used efficiently for two.
The mirrored wardrobe doors ‘double’ the master bedroom and bring in the green view from outside. On the wall is another painting done by their daughter, which adds a personal touch to this private space.
