The blue cupboard next to the fridge is quite shallow from the kitchen side, but a deeper cupboard section is accessed from the room behind.

This window has storage cupboards built all the way around. You hardly notice them as your focus is drawn to the wood panelling of the window seat and the black trim around the window. The cupboards are flat fronted, no handles, and same colour as wall and ceiling to blend into the background.

The bench seating just seen in the photo uses ikea top boxes designed to go above fridges, with a wooden top. The top boxes can be used as cupboards or drawers and a space left at one end is for the cat.

The rail is for moving the hook over ladder around Shaker style cupboards with cup handles - brass would be best
A permanent ladder can attach to a rail so it slides along but the sliding area has to kept clear
Storage can go right up to the ceiling, but you may need a ladder to retrieve things, so keep the top cupboard for little used items.
Pull out drawer for pet feeding and a pull out bin for bulk buy pet food
This shed is extra tall to store more stuff but not take up too much ground space

A large cupboard might dominate a room so you can paint it the same colour as the wall so that it blends in. Painting the end of the unit a bright colour to match the lampshade draws attention to that area but away from the size of the whole thing.

If one wall does not have the space for deep wall cupboards you can either go with a bank of cabinets against another wall, shallow open shelving, or a mix, as in photo, of open shelving and two tall tower cabinets on either side of a row of base units. These wall cabinets feel light as they are only 24cm deep. They store mugs and glass ware. subtle white cupboards (blending into white walls) resembling an attractive dresser by using symmetry and coming right down onto the worktop. Wall cabinets can be used as base cabinets if you lack space as they are not as deep. Worktops also come in different depths.
