ISLES-Color Combos
Sweet Harmonies of Beige, Taupe, Greige, Honey and Fawn These colors are timeless classics rather than novelties. However, there’s no better way to spice them up than to combine shades of these colors. Taupe (and onward through the spectrum to brown) has made a big comeback, and there are also fawn and sienna. Add greenery for a nod toward nature.
Neutral Color Palette The focus of a modern rooms is on the architecture and structure of key elements, which means the color palette tends toward crisp and clean white, subtle neutrals and black. When brighter colors do show up, it is often in the form of accessories. Colors for modern Rooms: Neutrals. Dove gray, stone, wheat, cream, beige, putty Black and white. Architectural white, matte black Pops of color. Fire engine red, navy blue, royal blue, chartreuse, teal
Coastal homes gather inspiration from the colors of sand, sky and sea. White is a popular choice for walls, making a crisp backdrop for furniture and decor in shades of blue, sea green and sand, though it’s certainly not the only option. Natural materials and textures also look right at home in a beach-style space — think of nubby jute rugs, wicker, rattan, sturdy canvas and fine linen. Great shades for coastal-style spaces: Beachy neutrals. Driftwood, soft beige, white, ocean mist Blues and greens. Aqua, sea glass, turquoise, teal, sea green, navy Bright accents. Orange, lime, lemon, coral, lobster red
This home has a fantastic soft paint palette that picks up some of the cool shades in the stone. Example palette: Here are a couple of palette options featuring a soft sage green for the siding and a watery turquoise blue for the doors and trim. Clockwise from top left: Gentle Wave 5007-7C and The Harbor AR1222 (both from Valspar), and Aegean Blue MSL118 and Morning Fog MSL115 (both from Martha Stewart).
Option 1. Clockwise from top left, this palette features a turquoise color for the front door, a light gray (that has a touch of green in it) for the columns and trim, and a nice, light taupe-gray color for the siding. The homeowner wanted to move away from the current “vanilla” color of the siding, but I would avoid going too dark. There appear to be a good number of trees near the house, casting shadows, and the tan brick at the base of the house is rather dark. This palette is light and bright without being too vanilla. All colors from Sherwin-Williams. Clockwise from top left: Reflecting Pool SW6486, Nuance SW7049 and Mindful Gray SW7016.
Choose key coastal colors, such as turquoise and coral, and make them strong and vibrant throughout your home. Designer chairs teamed with a flash of coral against a neutral backdrop look modern and bright in this room. I'd love to see those chairs in a deep teal.
