Malaysian Interior Designer Adrien Aced The Apartment Season 7
His bold design choices for the 40-hour final challenge paid off grandly for the 31-year-old

For their last challenge, mentor and judge Tyler Wisler gave the two finalists an empty bungalow each to transform. They had to decorate the living area, kitchen-dining area, master bedroom and a signature room that would showcase their personality. Their budget was $100,000 to use on finishes, furniture and decor accessories. They also had a full arsenal of Dulux special effects paints at their fingers.
Adrien challenged himself further: “The goal for this house is I wanted to make sure that everything in this space, I’ve never done before.” And it paid off, as his house impressed judges Cat Arambulo-Antonio and Tyler. With guest judge Marilen Faustino-Montenegro and the special guest jury counting as two votes for Seron, head judge Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen stepped in to break the tie and crown Adrien the winner of The Apartment‘s season 7. He described Adrien’s house as “a masterclass in style and substance”.
Adrien took inspiration from the vivid colours of an Indian sari juxtaposed against a pink wall for his living area.
He delineated boundaries of the open-plan space by colour-coding the vibrant living area and softer-hued dining space.

“I love the play of patterns – very Kelly Wearstler,” Cat said as the judges walked into the dining and kitchen area.
It’s so interesting how he put so much class over there [in the kitchen] and this side is very playful,” Marilen said.

In Adrien’s bold blue master bedroom, which he topped off with an emerald green ceiling for drama, Laurence noted the designer’s furniture placement as “very clever – he created an island bed, which is so elegant but so practical.”
For his signature room, Adrien chose to express his past life as a performance artist. “I came from a musical theatre background from a tiny town, Klang, resourceful in finding materials that can make a dramatic stage effect. I imagined myself performing here in something indie.”
“I’ve never seen lavatory paper and tights look so exciting,” Laurence said. Adrien received $100,000 from Dulux for winning The Apartment.
The Apartment airs Wednesdays and Thursdays, 8pm (SGT), on Diva.
