Remi by Mitzi
more complicated to build but interesting
just some (expensive but awesome) inspiration
More wood below and white above, and the turquoisey blue accent. SY: yep, just those chairs are enough, aren't they!
Maybe something like this on the end of the banquette? A place for cookbooks, etc. SY: cool
hood
that's a hood above the stove. so sleek.
this type of hood is my second fav option between cabinets.
this is that kitchen we both like, but I don't like the gaps between hood chute and side cabinets. JB: Agreed. And I definitely prefer wood cabinets below and white uppers more than this. SY: absolutely. they need to be swapped! :)
LOVE this hood effect in your kitchen. I'd do this. JB: Yes--this is great!
minimal hood in cabinet - I like this JB: This is about the most hood we'd want to have. Prefer the concealed hood if we can make it work. SY: agreed. great.
concealed hood
nb. we don't want this hood effect - for reference later.
JB: wood and white kitchen. SY: love. Do you like that marbled top? It's more midcentury to go speckled. :) I'll bring some options. BTW, I love this simple concealed hood. You? JB: No, I wasn't thinking about marble--just adding another wood & white kitchen to the mix. Big yes to the concealed hood--not interested in a big hunk of metal over the stove :) SY: thumbs up!
JB: Built-ins with fold-down secretary desks that hide computer/iPad storage, printer. SY: so pretty.
JB: Built-in entertainment center with windows SY: yes, love.
JB: open shelving around stove. SY: cool. I have a different idea about open shelving in relation to stove, but I'm glad you're 'open' (haha) to open shelves. (The stove and fridge swap locations in our best plan.) BTW, talk to me about hoods and your preferences there?
$449 Toscano Chair from Joybird
Toscano in walnut and gray. Not sure about where the color is coming from in this space yet but dropping this here for now.
SY: this is an image board I did a while back for a white and wood kitchen with medium gray floors - I ran across it today and it made me think of the direction that we have been looking for at your place.
JB: Family room entertainment center SY: so cool
JB: Would love to find a way to put the microwave low like this if possible. SY: I think that’s totally possible!
JB: Putting here for the railing on the stairs.
JB: Wondering about the possibility of reducing the size of the pantry and adding a coffee station like this one--about 18-24" wide? SY: gotcha. Nice.
SY: lippa tables from modway
SY: amazing what you can do to pull the wood into this little kitchen, just with shelves and stools and a light fixture JB: This does help me imagine simple ways to bring wood in. SY: about this kitchen, how do you feel about open shelves?
SY: materials here? I like this floor and this wood and countertop. JB: I love the color of the wood and the contrast of the white counters.
SY: this is too white/cool/stark for me, I think, but the wood ceiling is a thought for tying to the parquet in the living area - maybe only back in the sunroom. JB: Agree!
SY: materials here are lovely. thoughts? I'm trying to retain your sense that you'd like a white kitchen, but mix in wood too... JB: I've been won over by the wood and white--I think it's the way to go. Like the backsplash pattern but not the color.
SY: this light terrazo blends beautifully into the light carpet... we wouldn't have to go quite this light if that felt risky for the longevity of the carpet, but going light-ish and trying to match the carpet to the tile is a great idea to blend even across the change in materials. Also this wood and white in the kitchen is nice. The waterfall countertops help a lot to lighten up and tie the white countertops to the white/light floors - though are not inexpensive additions. JB: Again, love the wood and white, but the flooring is too light for me. Not interested in a waterfall countertop.
SY: white and wood here with a brown-gray tile... but I don't think you are looking for any sort of color like this, right? more overall neutral for you? JB: Again, I'm drawn to that turquoise-y blue. I like the floors too.
SY: wood and white here - everything very very white above the countertop.
SY: lighter wood here and floors. I like the effect. thoughts? JB: Like the wood tone, the floors are way lighter than I was imaginng.
SY: wood on the bottom and white on top again. Darker floors. I could get behind darker or lighter floors, but I really like the idea of the carpet blending into the tile - maybe at a medium-light tone. Ok for me to try that direction? JB: I like this look--we'd be interested to see some options with this.
JB: I really like this backsplash, the white and wood, and the undermount sink. SY: me too :) SY: followup: talk to me about hardware and flat front doors. Also dropping this info here: This tile is Heath Tile (from Sausalito). For grout we use one of the standard brands, and choose the color after the tile is installed to get the best compatibility.
wood and white and lighter tile floors (not this backsplash) JB: I'm really liking all these white and wood kitchens! SY: cool! me too. It warms them up and makes them feel more midcentury than straight white.
floor and backsplash (but not the blue, I know) JB: I like this backsplash. Still not certain about the tile floors--I'm having a hard time imagining how the different types of flooring tie together, and I like wood flooring so much better than tile. SY: yeah, I hear you. See my image above where the tile blends into the carpet - I think that's the best way to go if you keep the parquet.
white and wood and tile
wood and white JB: I really like this combo. I even love the backsplash--not sure if it's too much color for what we're doing, but I'm really drawn to it. SY: Honestly, I very rarely think the phrase "too much color" :) - but that's up to you. These wood and white schemes can be pulled off very neutrally (with color in art for example if you want some color), or with a bright backsplash. Both work very well. JB: I definitely want some color, just need to think about if it works in the backsplash or if we bring it in in other ways, like you mention.
another good mix of wood and white - obv custom
just thinking about storage for games and such in the family room... JB: This much storage would be fantastic! SY: I think I'm going to show you an option with a built-in and an option without, so you could phase that in.
banquette alternative in front of windows - 50"w and comes in a few fabrics.
48" wide settee
Wood and white, cabinets around the refrigerator
