Julie creatively designed with the surrounding landscape in mind. She was responsive to our ideas, providing sound advice about the prospective merits and pitfalls of each. We have found that living in the house is very comfortable with a good flow.. This is very evident when we prepare food, look out over the prairie when we sit in the great room, snd appreciate the separation of bedrooms from daily living spaces. The three season room is great too, practically inviting the outdoors in. The house is right-sized for us and our family, meaning that the use of space is functional and aesthetically pleasing throughout.

We really appreciated Julie's knowledge of the building code and attention to detail. She has a special ability to listen to our ideas and put them on the plans. We made multiple changes and she patiently dealt with us and the builder through the entire design process. We would recommend her for your architectural needs. My husband and I hired Julie to design an addition to our house. We did not know exactly what we wanted at first. Julie was very patient as we went through various ideas. She provided excellent recommendations and showed us different designs before my husband and I finally came to a decision. Julie designed a one-story addition (master bedroom/bath/walk-in closet with a mudroom and porch) for us. She was an excellent communicator, and we were never left wondering when we would receive our drawings or what the next step was. Julie was also very quick to respond to any emails we sent. She met every deadline and often provided us information ahead of the anticipated schedule. Julie integrated all of our ideas exactly as we wanted. She provided her opinion when asked but allowed us to make the final decisions on various aspects of the addition. Our final design was exactly what we wanted, and we have Julie to thank for that. We came to Julie with an idea and a few sketches for a new house. Julie Julie took those sketches and turned it into a reality. Not only did Julie design our perfect home but she helped with picking out the materials for the interior ( tile, carpet, cabinets etc ).. Julie stepped up to the plate and was willing to work with us on a difficult project that included an addition with a near total remodel of our first floor. She worked with us through several different options for the project before settling on the final basic layout. Then the real work began as we worked together to come up with the final plans. Julie was detail oriented and provided suggestions as well as seeking appropriate guidance and feedback to formulate those final plans. The blueprints provided our builder with all necessary information including joining the new roofline with the existing roofline. We were very happy to have Julie provide plans which outlined the structural components that would need to be addressed for this project. Her drawings made our interactions with suppliers and subs seamless and much easier to accomplish than if we didn't have her input. What we liked the best was Julie's willingness to take our ideas and put them on paper. She were very easy to work with, and did not attempt to push us in a direction that we didn't want to go. Julie performed the services we requested, in a timely manner and in a way that incorporated all of our thoughts and ideas fully. We very much considered Julie's work a good value.. Considering that we didn't need extremely detailed plans on every aspect of our addition based on the nature of the work we were doing, we feel satisfied that all of our needs were addressed and feel the fees were reasonable and well worth the investment.

We loved your work. You gave the builder's drawings (and our house) character! It didn't have much before we sent the drawings off to you. You also improved the work space and flow of the house. We've gotten lots of compliments on the house. The "smaller" size works very well for us and looks great! We definitely feel that your work was a good value.

I had a cramped, old farmhouse, and hired Julie to help me expand it, and make it more useful, all the while keeping the same look and feel of the farmhouse. Julie was fantastic to work with, very creative. She listened to me and was very responsive. I couldn't be happier with the end result! I wanted to utilize every bit of space, with no "dead" spaces, and I wanted the addition to include a home yoga studio. The result has the same look and feel of my Grandma's old farmhouse. The inside is open, beautiful, and has modern aspects along with the history of the original old house. Julie has a great eye to aesthetics, practicality, and things like frostlines, potential water issues and dampness-she covers everything, which made me feel very comfortable with her plans. Julie Kardatzke helped us figure out how to remodel our log cabin in rural Wisconsin. The remodel which is still underway, consists of finishing an unfinished basement, including insulation and the extension of heating and cooling into that part of the house. It also includes the addition of a stairway to the basement as well as a new bathroom in the basement. Julie helped us by meeting with us at the property which is a good distance from her office, and getting familiar with the existing structure and our intentions for remodeling it. We live in another state, so we had to work with her remotely via email on our discussions. She listened to us, and produced several floor plan drawings which helped us clarify what we wanted to do. She knows a good deal about codes and good practices in design and so was able to help us pick out practical solutions for our project. In the end, we used a couple of her final floor plan drawings to negotiate with our contractor who is now working on the project. The drawings were clear and sufficient to serve as a spec for this remodel. Julie was very flexible in working with us and we feel very lucky to have found her.

We have had the privilege of working with Julie Kardatzke as an architect during the design and build of our new home. Having lived in the house for the past two years provides us with a fair and accurate assessment of her skills. During the actual design process, Ms. Kardatzke worked closely with us. She was very responsive to our ideas. However, she also made certain that our ideas would structurally work and would not present problems later. When a problem arose during construction, Ms. Kardatzke was on scene within hours. Since we were building on lake property, there were substantial constraints and challenges. Every last one was satisfied and passed by the building inspector. Our current residence is the second architecturally designed home we have built. We have now lived in the house for a sufficient period of time and can judge exactly how well the house functions. There simply are no design mistakes. Not only do our friends compliment the house, it is simply a joy to live in it. On a scale of 1 to 10, Ms. Kardatzke is an 11. We wholeheartedly endorse her firm.

We asked Julie to come up with ideas to reconfigure our old Madison house. She listened to what we wanted, she respected our budget and came up with plans that we were delighted with (and never could have conceived ourselves). Architect provided initial concept design of energy efficient, passive solar new home from interviews with owners and moved this process of creating final drawings to completion in a timely manner. Very professional and patient working with both of us to get an excellent finished product for our builder within established budget. Unique 3-D walk through computer models helped visualize spaces and final design product.

We hired Julie to help us design our kitchen remodel. Through her expert recommendations and 3-D drawings, we were able to visualize the finished project, which is what we had hoped to achieve. She suggested various lighting ideas, counter top surfaces and sink options that will fit into our budget. She showed great respect and professionalism for our needs and budget. We hired Julie for a "second opinion" on an addition design for our home. The design we had come up with wasn't quite right, and the cost estimate was much higher than we wanted to spend. We told her we were looking for general ideas, and maybe rough concept drawings of a possible new design. She looked at our current plans and photos of our house, and reviewed my comments on the situation. After coming up with several possibilities, she came to our house with her laptop. During the course of a couple hours we were able to work through several scenarios and come up with a new direction that looks better, feels better, and is more in line with our needs and resources. She helped us to hone in on the important issues, and see that it was possible to move in the direction we wanted to go. She kept to the scope of our request for her services, was very helpful, and the cost was reasonable and fair. We were very pleased with her work.
