11 Dogs That Have Better Beds Than Us

These dogs are winning at Houzz. Take a look at their princely beds and be inspired

Being a good designer is all about listening to your client. By making sure they’re fully involved in the design process, and modelling the interior to suit their needs, your chance of a successful outcome is much higher. Judging by the contented look of these pets on Houzz, it’s clear their owners have done just that, because here are 11 dogs that, quite possibly, have better beds than any of us.
The design gurus
Coordination is key, so we had our owners pick out a bed in a similar fabric to the blind in order to ensure we felt right at home in this kitchen.

We added in a few scatter cushions in contrasting shades of mustard yellow and grey, which we can update with the seasons, and we had the owners colour-match the units to our hair. It’s the little things, you know?

The glamper
I’m the kind of dog that can appreciate the finer things in life, so I asked my owner to create me a glamping-inspired teepee bed. It reminds me of Coachella.

I chose a gossamer-sheer white version and had it carpeted in sheepskin for that luxe look. Sometimes, though, I prefer to lounge on the larger rug outside; it just depends on what mood I’m in that day.

The dedicated follower of fashion
When one has as extensive a hat collection as this, one needs to show it off, hence the low-level clothes hooks next to my bed. I don’t go to sleep until I’ve planned my outfit for the next day.

The monochrome pattern I chose for the bed itself is a timeless classic, plus it looks good against my coat. To quote Coco Chanel, “I don’t do fashion, I am fashion.”

The box set addict
I had my owners bring my bed into the living room so I could keep up with family life and watch a bit of Netflix.

I chose a monochrome colour palette to tone in with the rest of the room scheme, but went for a bold stripe to stake out my territory and make sure no one else tries to get my prime position.

I’ve yet to be given my own remote control, but I live in hope.

The gourmet
I have a strong interest in cooking, so I asked for my bed to be situated near the kitchen, so I can survey my domain and keep an eye on what the humans are cooking up.

I didn’t want to get underfoot and be a nuisance, though, so I asked to be tucked away at one end of the kitchen island. It’s just a coincidence that I’m also perfectly positioned to snap up any scraps when the humans are eating meals at the breakfast bar.
The pals
I don’t travel anywhere without my personalised cushions and my little pal. I had this bed custom-made to allow us both to feel included during meal times in the kitchen. We each picked out a cushion for our side of the bed, but luckily we have the same taste, so they match perfectly.

By asking for our bed to be tucked under the worktop, we feel as if we’re in the thick of things, but not in the way. We’re thoughtful like that.

The social animal
Personally, I like my bed to be elevated off the floor and positioned in the centre of the room, so I can be in the thick of things at all times. Nothing happens in this house without me knowing about it and that’s just the way I like it.

My owners had strange plans to use this bed as a footstool or coffee table when they first bought it, but I soon put a stop to that.

The outdoorsy type
When you’re a rugged, outdoorsy sort of dog like me, there’s only one place for your bed – somewhere with quick access to the great outdoors. That’s why I asked for mine to be placed in the boot room. I like to feel I’m ready to go out for a walk at a moment’s notice, positioned as I am next to my owner’s coat and boots. It completely removes any, ‘I can’t find my gloves,’ sort of excuses.

The wipe-clean floor was a careful design consideration, too. I don’t like to be a burden to my owners, so with this tiled floor, they can just mop it down if I bring in any muddy paw prints. Which has been known.

The sunbather
Warmth, so much warmth. I want to get up and retrieve that ball, but I’m just too cosy here underneath the window in a pool of sunlight. This cosy spot is perfect for keeping an eye on the kitchen, and if the owner is doing a spot of baking, I like to offer emotional support from my bed.

Inspired by The Great British Bake Off, I like to bark out my thoughts every now and again: a little less baking powder here, a little longer in the oven there… It’s safe to say there are no soggy bottoms in this kitchen.

The shy and retiring sort
I like to know what’s going on in my household, but I don’t always need to be right in the centre of things, so I asked my owners to design me a cosy and sheltered sleeping space where I can hide if things get a little loud.

It’s snug and warm in here, and I had my bed made to match the dark grey worktops, so I blend in seamlessly.

The boss
Pet beds? What are they? I only sleep on a pocket-sprung mattress and a 15 tog duvet thank you very much.

This bed is in my cabin retreat, where I come for a little reflection and some time out. Now could you make a bit less noise please, I’m trying to think. And you can close the door on the way out.
