hsmeghan, we had the same problem in the kitchen of our new house- deep pantry cabinets- a good problem to have. We went to our local home store and bought slide- out shelf units that installed easily on each shelf and now I can easily see what’s in the back. There are also companies such as Shelf Genie that will fabricate and install custom pull-out units if your pantry cabinet isn’t a standard size but of course that would be a more expensive option.

Thank you, Archinut. I have bought two slide-out units and one is installed in the lower cupboard where I keep my pots and pans. I plan to buy more. I think there were also plans to build these in a Handyman magazine I bought for my husband but getting them ready-made is so much easier.

When he went to install the slider, it didn't fit and I was sooooo discouraged. I had measured everything carefully and it was a standard size, 14-1/2", but where the bolts were installed it made it too wide. Come to find out that the unit was defective -- something had come apart, making it too wide, and the ball bearings also kept falling out. We returned it and got a new one, and the other slider fit just fine. Just waiting for hubby to get around to installing the other one (right now we're redoing our laundry room) and I plan to get more with the gift cards I was given for Christmas. It would be so great to have these in all my lower cupboards and possibly the pantry too!

Great Read! I have designed kitchens and other storage areas for clients and always try to find ways to promote functionality with a little ingenuity. Cabinet manufacturers can do a great job with uncommon features. Always fun to design, more fun to see them built!
