22 Nap Nooks Show That This Cosy Spot is Here to Stay
There's nothing quite like having a cosy spot to call your own – to read, chill, catch 40 winks or ... just because you'd like one

Say ‘siesta’ … think napping in cool interiors, shuttered from the hot, blazing sun outside. It’s no wonder why napping in the afternoons, which originated in Spain and was adopted by many countries with hot climates, is so deliciously enticing. On a serious note, research has also shown that napping offers many benefits, particularly to kids.
While a snooze on the sofa may seem like the perfect way to unplug, wouldn’t it be nice to actually have a designated nap nook instead? From quiet corners and the usual bay windows (preferably with a nice view), to the it’s-a-tad-small-but-I-can-still-sleep, there’s an idea here for anyone who’s been wanting a nap nook or hideaway to call one’s own.

Never underestimate the power of bay windows
Here, it’s a cosy corner set just a little bit away from the main living room. Pull the curtains for privacy and you’ve got yourself a perfect nap nook or place to sit for a tete-a-tete.

Quiet contemplation
With many nap nooks set against bay windows, this one doubles as seating too, with storage beneath it. Clean lines and light-coloured wood pull this room together to offer a sanctuary for catching 40 winks or a spot of ‘me time’.

Shhh … don’t wake the baby
A nap nook and a nursing corner in your nursery? Yes! And with storage under the seat too. Softly lit by the wall sconces and natural lighting from the window, this comfortably laid corner makes you want to … why are we whispering?

Two’s company
If your afternoons are spent huddled with your child over a favourite book, do it in the comfort of this cushy armchair. Clad in white with colourful dots that lend just enough cheery feel to the corner, while picking up the thin red stripes on the wallpaper and red tree motif on the curtains, it’s just like sitting in a huge hug.

Reboot your brain
Pulled an all-nighter watching the stock markets? A nap is a wonderful way to chase brain fog away. In a luxuriously decked out ‘padded cell’ (pun definitely NOT intended!) like this, which is great for noise reduction, you might not want to share the space with anyone else.

A monochromatic palette takes charge in this room
A raised platform adds interest, while the cushy mattress and plenty of pillows in matching tones invite you to fall back and chill (instead of working at the desk).

Don’t be at odds with this corner
Install built-in seats with storage. Simple does it with soft blues, while punchy yellow adds colour to an otherwise all-white base.

Ommmmm
A neutral palette and just enough greenery create an oasis of calm serenity. If you are lucky enough to have a dedicated space for yoga, you have a space for napping. A tatami-style mattress is all you’ll need.

Surprise!
This canopy bed shows how a little creativity can lead to a stunning design. Who would expect a riot of colours and textures beneath the black and white curtains?

Simplicity in design
While the window seating is a great idea to take advantage of the view beyond the bay window, movable furniture allows this space to be configured for various purposes. Tuck a tatami-style mattress in a corner, ready to be pulled out when needed.

An all-in-one
Hidden in a space that’s just perfect for a wee bit of a read, this cosy corner is large enough for a young child to have a snooze too. The slim column of shelves can hold more than books; a display for childhood mementos or a cup of coffee while you’re reading.

For your fur kid
Your pet deserves a nap nook of its own too, and it’s a great way to make use of space under a flight of stairs.

Chase the blues away
Decorated with tone-on-tone colour and gauzy curtains to shut the world out, curling up with a book has never been so stylish.

Pretend play
A treehouse wanna-be? Perhaps … but if it’ll take away the fuss of getting your child to take a nap (research says naps benefit kids in more ways than one), we say go for it! The soothing blue of the walls will easily lull him or her to sleep. The stuffed toys and forest print bed linen play well with the tree decal and the short ladder – to a little kid, it’s almost like climbing up to his treehouse.

Bright and cheery
Set against a wallpapered backdrop of branches, this adorable treehouse ‘facade’ hides a comfortable nap nook for one. While punches of primary colours enliven this otherwise neutral palette, it’s still a restful space for a young child … and his friends.

Read to me
With a reading and napping nook that looks like this, your little one might not think reading is such a chore after all. The chalkboard painted wall is a clever idea to encourage communication with your child, and it also helps with writing and spelling too.

Come and play
With no distractions (aka toys) and plenty of space, it’s the perfect nap nook for a young child. On the flip side, this sparsely furnished room has ample space to lay out a train set or stage a performance when other kids drop by.

Pure whimsical
Which child wouldn’t love a nook like this? Fairy lights and buntings are reminiscent of fair grounds, and all the yummy things that come with it, like fairy floss, popcorn and candy-coloured ice cream – ‘nuff said.

Pretty in pink
A ceiling-hung canopy setup is both a focal point in this room as well as a perfect hideaway space for one. Dress it up with flowers and clever lighting, and when your child tires of it, you can change the look and feel.

Simple and functional
Shots of colour enliven this space that could easily accommodate a guest or two. That cool pull-out table from the raised platform (which also has plenty of built-in storage) is a nifty idea – just pull up a chair and voila, a work station!

Drift off to gentle sleep in these ‘sleeping quarters’ that could easily pass off as one on the Starship Enterprise. With cubby holes running the length of the bed holding all manner of reading material, there’s really no excuse not to curl up with a book, if sleep doesn’t take over.

And the piece de resistance…
It was just begging to be included.
