Being the most significant number across different cultures, religions and even literature, seven is generally considered a lucky number. And who wouldn’t want to be lucky?

In preparation for the Lunar New Year, we rounded up seven species of plants that are not only lucky to have around but are also decorative and easy to care for.

Bonus: They can all be grown in containers and even indoors!

1. Lucky bamboo (Dracaena braunii)
Possibly the most popular symbol of good fortune and prosperity in Asian culture, the lucky bamboo tops our list. While the number of stalks can in turn have definitive meanings, the basic single log is symbolic of a life that is filled with prosperity. Two bamboo stalks doubles your luck and is also an expression of love. Three stalks, the most popular combination, is said to bring happiness, long life and wealth.

2. Money plant (Epipremnum aureum)
Besides removing indoor air pollutants, the money plant is said to bring monetary gain to its owner. Even in less than ideal conditions, this popular houseplant will find a way to thrive. It can survive low light and infrequent watering so you can basically get more work done (read: more productivity) instead of having to take care of it.

3. Jade plant (Crassula ovata)
This succulent is said to bring friendship and money into a home. A popular house plant throughout the world, it is also great to give as a gift as, besides being lucky, it is pretty easy to care for. It will thrive despite irregular watering and if located in a spot with bright, filtered light, the leaves will turn a delightful red.

4. Orchid
In feng shui, orchids are symbols of perfection, love, beauty and fertility. It is said to attract positive energy, thus, improving the lives of the homeowners. With long-lasting flowers that come in different shapes and sizes, orchids are great additions to any space (they make perfect gifts for loved ones, too). Despite being delicate-looking, orchids aren’t really that high-maintenance.

5. Areca palm aka Yellow/Bamboo/Butterfly Palm (Dypsis lutescens)
This plant has a graceful flow that will soften the energy of any space. It also removes harmful toxins in the air, creating a cleaner and purer living environment. Areca palm is recommended for the living area, around computers and other electrical entertainment systems.

6. Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum wallisii)
The peace lily improves the flow of energy in a space, thanks to its astounding ability to purify air and neutralise harmful gases. This plant grows well in shaded and even dark environments making them ideal for basements and similar areas where other plants may not thrive.

7. Aloe Vera
Besides its health benefits (the gel in its leaves have incredible healing properties ), aloe vera is also a bearer of good luck and positive energy. It is also believed that when the aloe vera plant fades, it is because it has absorbed the negative energies and is thus protecting the inhabitants of the dwelling.
