Nature’s colour, green is known in colour psychology to be the hue of balance and harmony, new life, healing and growth. But not many people easily embrace green in its full glory. These muted shades are a great alternative: almost neutral, yet still deeply infused with green’s psychological benefits.

1. Sage on the wall
As a feature wall that frames the bed, this super-muted green is contrasted with white mouldings for impact. It beautifully complements the neutral hues of the vintage trunks used as bedside tables and bed bench.

2. Olive seats
These bar stools add a subtle pop of colour to the contemporary Scandi-style kitchen, and draws out the warmth of the wood ceiling detail.

3. Army green frame
A built-in bed in a darker shade of green creates a cosy, cocooning atmosphere. Pale birch wood outlines add contrast and a graphic, geometric element to the design.

4. Swirls of green
For a super-luxe look, shades of green in this floor-to-ceiling wallpaper clad this powder room’s walls. Dark mirrored surfaces complete the sophisticated effect.

5. Green trellis on the floor
This soft olive area rug in a trellis pattern adds life to the neutral palette of this living room, and completes its city-resort ambience.

6. Pale blend
Pale colours, including the green sofa and armchair, work well in this Scandi-inspired open-concept living and dining space. They exude a masculine yet cosy and cocooning effect.

7. Calming focal point
With the bold hues of the dining area’s painting, and the busyness of the graphic tiles on the kitchen island, the soft green sofa is a soothing and inviting focal point in this open-concept space.

8. Life and dark
The muted green of the laminate-clad cabinet fronts in this study is contrasted with grey and black details for a subtle yet striking look. It’s restful, and at the same time edgy.
