A highlight event of Archifest is the annual SIA Design Awards, which recognises excellence in architecture
Singapore’s most prestigious award, the SIA (Singapore Institute of Architects) Architectural Design Awards is an industry recognition for excellence in architecture and the built environment. The institute conferred the 17th edition on October 5, during Archifest.
Entries were judged according to originality and innovation, sensitivity to context, sustainability, response to climate, response to users’ needs, and elegance of construction and detail. Two projects were awarded as the “Building Of The Year”: Amanemu by Kerry Hill Architects, and Oasia Hotel Downtown by WOHA.

A hot springs hotel overlooking Ago Bay in Japan, Amanemu was cited for its “skilful use of light, lines and colours, which herald a new modern vernacular in the context of its monochromatic environment”.
