Houzz Tour: Sherbet-y Colours Pretty Up This Family Condo
Geometric blocks add a dynamic vibe to the soft and sweet colour scheme
The young family who bought this resale condo wanted their new home to be bright and white, with pops of colour to give it life and excitement, according to the Mr Shopper Studio design team. “Something playful” was the ambience they were looking for.
The layout for the open-plan living, dining and kitchen was very linear, so the design team proposed keeping the space mostly white, with yellow accents. “Yellow was chosen because the client really liked red and green. Red was too strong of a colour so we decided on yellow because red + green = yellow!”
As the kitchen was designed in mint green, little pops of the cool colour also appear in the open-plan communal space.

The kitchen is bordered by a breakfast bar on the side facing the dining area. White wicker bar stools were shipped in from the USA, while most of the other furniture was bought through the Alibaba-owned Taobao. Peranakan-inspired tiles in muted blue hues were used on the backsplash both within the kitchen and the breakfast bar for a touch of playfulness.
Stepping away from the communal spaces into the hallway to bedrooms, the design team created a family ‘room’. “We designed it as a space where the family can gather (outside of the main living areas) to read and play. We incorporated the same mint green colour used in the kitchen.”
The guest bathroom was designed to give visual respite from the colourful communal spaces, so the design team kept it sleek and clean in white.
To create a Zen ambience in the master bedroom, the design team kept the colour palette simpler, applying pale blue accents through the soft furnishings and on the cabinetry detail of the wardrobe.
For the master bathroom, the designers applied a sleek white look similar to the guest bathroom, but with pops of soft blue that echo the restful colour of the bedroom.
The playful colour palette goes all out in the son’s bedroom, with the yellow and blue hues appearing as bold chevron stripes traversing the walls and wardrobe.

Location: East Coast area
Type of property: Condominium (resale unit)
Size: 1,725 square feet (3 bedrooms)
Project duration: 5 months in total; 2 months for renovation

The condo unit has three bedrooms (plus a helper’s room with a half-bath) and two bathrooms. With some clever space-planning, the design team eked out space for a family ‘room’ and a stand-alone study room.
In terms of aesthetics, the owners deliberated on different styles, and landed on the popular Scandinavian style. “The colour palette was inspired by the husband who said he likes bright colours. Yellow, blue and mint green were chosen as they work really well together and the colours are very lively and playful,” the designers say.
