Living in space-starved Singapore, I am particularly interested to see how homeowners tackle storage solutions for small homes and how they maximise their floor space. I believe that with all things, less is more!

Armed with a theme and an accent colour in mind, the homeowners approached interior designer Christin Apriyanti of Distinctidentity to assist them with the renovation of their home.
“The homeowners wanted a modern-looking space. They also wanted me to incorporate navy blue into the design of the home, together with bold and dark hues,” says Apriyanti.

“The furniture was sourced by homeowners. They did their research, so they know the type of furniture they want. We gave them our opinion on the material and colour choices so that the pieces would blend in with overall design,” shares Apriyanti.
“Because the owners entertain a lot at home, we created an open-concept kitchen. By hacking the existing kitchen partition, we could incorporate the dining set, allowing them to accommodate more guests,” explains Apriyanti.
Patterned tiles in blue and grey demarcate the dining area and soften the dark hues used for the kitchen cabinets and island.

A unique design feature of the home is the custom-made metal screen, personalised with the homeowners’ initials, ‘W’ and ‘E’, plated in gold.
The screen provides some privacy should the couple leave their front door open as the kitchen is located just by the main entrance.

The same navy is found in the master bedroom. The light-filled room has a restful ambience as the colour blue has a calming effect when contrasted against crisp white.
Apriyanti proposed painting the upper portion of the wall opposite the bed white to brighten the room. This also leads the eye upwards, giving the illusion of a taller and bigger space.
The glass doors in this stylish walk-in wardrobe allow the homeowners to showcase their clothing and accessories while keeping them dust-free.
