How to Keep your Balcony Clean and Tidy

Make sure the extra space you have in your balcony is ever-ready for use

With space at home truly being at a premium now that everyone has to stay home this season, it’s always a good idea to optimise every available square foot – and that includes your balcony.

Here are three ways to keep it clean and tidy so that you have more space for your activities:

1. Install motorised blinds.
Outdoor motorised blinds can help to protect your balcony spaces from UV, rain, wind and insects. It can even prevent cool air-conditioned air from flowing outdoors. With blinds you can enjoy a dry and clean balcony at all times.

On top of this, balcony blinds help create extra space for the house, i.e., you can convert your balcony into a dining area or child play corner, or even your work space as you work from home.

2. Implement a regular maintenance regime, which involves both tidying and cleaning
Give the floor a good sweep, wash any fabrics and clean and polish other accessories such as outdoor furniture. Enforce a regular cleaning schedule, just like any other part of the home, if you want it to look neat and tidy at all time.

3. Choose the right accessories and plants
Growing greens on your balcony helps to create a Zen and natural environment, but do take into consideration the placement and overall aesthetics as well. Think about the available space, what is needed for that space and purchase your accessories and plants accordingly. It is important not to clutter the balcony (do not use it as a store room). Maximise the space with small fixtures that can be easily rearranged. Do also check empty pots and plants regularly to ensure that there is no stagnant water that may turn into mosquito breeding grounds.
