It's Star Wars Day ... and May the Fourth Be With You
Fans of the sci-fi series are making special effects of their own all over the house. Have a look and share your own ideas for celebrating
Cue the John Williams music in your head.
A long time ago in a galaxy far far … well, actually in California in 1977, George Lucas made the first of three amazing movies without CGI or a fraction of the other special effects available today. Most importantly, none of the movies in the first Star Wars trilogy had JarJar Binx in them. Star Wars changed the landscape of science fiction movies and has continued to rake in billions of dollars with the second trilogy (a prequel to the original trilogy), cartoons, merchandise and more.
May 4 is Star Wars Day because ‘May the fourth’ sounds kinda like ‘May the force’ which is ridiculous, so I approve. It’s timely this year, as the eighth instalment of the franchise, Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, is set to be released in December this year (Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, as well as the return of many of the original cast members – I am so excited!); so we all have that to look forward to. Happy Star Wars Day, everyone!

These are the droids I’m looking for (no Jedi mind tricks work on me) – and boy, are they big on this home theatre screen. Yes, the rest of this ideabook is going to be this silly, so quit now if it’s getting on your nerves. Here are 10 ways people are celebrating Star Wars around the house.
1. In the all-out home theatre
Some of the most fervent fans have designed their home theatres to make them feel like they are aboard a spaceship.

Of course, the theatre lobby is not to be ignored.
I wonder if these homeowners ever watch any non-Star Wars movies in here?
Adding a frozen Han Solo to your wall is true fan commitment.
2. In the bedroom, with an integrated mural

3. In a playroom, with a mural
When I looked at this in thumbnail view, the entry to the front of the ship fooled me –these designers did a fabulous job.

4. In the loo
I wish I had seen this Millennium Falcon hurtling toward the throne when I was putting together the funniest bathrooms on Houzz.

5. Surprisingly, in a minimalist’s house
It amuses me when minimalist design includes a little something Star Wars; when someone is extra picky about everything that enters a room, it shows how important those items are to them. These figures work so well with the spare design.

6. A Darth Vader head can balance out trophies
And who knew Darth and Cole & Sons’ ubiquitous Woods wallpaper could look so good together?

8. In a graphic artist’s loft
These posters, by artist Justin Van Genderen, are the loft-y version of Star Wars style. They are great for Star Wars fans who also appreciate graphic design.
