@ashley I grew up in SoCal as well, but am of Italian descent. We traded ravioli for tamales all the time. We never had the seven fishes on Christmas Eve, that is a Sicilian tradition, at least according to my family.

We must be the quintessential "American" family, because for Christmas cuisine, we most often consume pineapple or cherry glazed bone-in ham, potatoes augratin, green jello with pineapple, cottage cheese and walnuts mixed into it, baked cinnamon apples, homemade bread rolls, green bean casserole, buttered corn, Waldorf fruit salad, green salad and lots of cheeses, chips & dips, olives and pickles for munchies. Dessert is ALWAYS my husband's White Chocolate Pumpkin Cheesecake with Gingersnap Crust. We also must always have cookie cutter, icing frosted sugar cookies made with the grandkids a week or so before Christmas. Not a particularly dietetic meal, but deliciously scrumptious and satisfying! We are in the Seattle area of Washington State and have primarily English, Irish and German ancestry, with a smidge of French thrown in.
