Stickybeak of the Week: A Kitchen Gets a Luxe Hamptons-Style Makeover
These lucky homeowners feel as though they're permanently on holiday in the Hamptons, thanks to their new bright, white kitchen
With a complete overhaul that included new shaker-style cabinets, timber flooring, a kitchen island and a bright white palette – and that’s just to start – a dingy suburban kitchen took on Hamptons-inspired class. This stylish cook space has the feel of a multi-million-dollar beachside retreat thanks to hand-painted cabinetry, clever storage solutions and high-quality luxury finishes.
Provincial Kitchens totally transformed the space, firstly, they flipped the kitchen to the wall opposite. Next, they designed a huge island bench to sit in the middle of the room, that would open up the kitchen to flow through to the laundry. Finally, Shaker doors with wider timber door rails, bevelled kick boards which sit proud of the cabinets and handmade tiles were added to channel the look of the Hamptons.
A new timber floor replaced the dated tiles, bringing warmth and character to the all-white space.

To achieve that laid-back luxury of the Hamptons, the cabinets are all hand painted to give a slightly rustic appearance. “Hand painting gives a lovely matt finish and is easy to maintain; plus, it will stand the test of time,” says founder of Provincial Kitchens, Dominique McAdam.
The freestanding oven is the centrepiece of the new kitchen. At 900 millimetres wide it will more than cater for the family, and brings some old-world charm to the kitchen.

The island bench has transformed this kitchen into a functional and social space. On the kitchen side a semi-integrated dishwasher, butler’s sink and pull-out bin make this area highly functional. Integrated towel rails are placed over the bin and dishwasher for easy access.

The kitchen includes several ingenious storage solutions included – one of the benefits of having a kitchen custom designed and built. These narrow kick-board drawers are prefect for surplus supplies and ensure that not a millimetre of space goes to waste. There are even some kick-board drawers with comfy blankets used as dog beds. No more dog beds cluttering up the kitchen, simply slide it away when not in use.
Another clever storage solution is spice drawers tucked next to the range hood. They make good use of the space and ensure the salt and pepper (or chilli flakes, depending on your tastes) are never out of reach.
An appliance cupboard is partially concealed behind mesh screens. By opting for some semi-concealed storage options, the design team hope to increase the scheme’s airy, beachy feel.
The new laundry area includes a second butler’s sink. To further improve the functionality of the space, the laundry area also includes a walk-in pantry, making the space twice as useful.
“The pantry was put at the end of the laundry run next to the fridge, so it became an extension of the kitchen,” explains McAdam. “The second sink is actually the laundry sink … as well as a sink for the dogs to be washed in!”
Attention to detail has created a kitchen that feels luxurious yet laid-back – exactly like the beachy getaways found in the Hamptons. Combined with clever storage solutions and a practical layout, this kitchen ticks all the owners’ boxes.

Before the design team transformed this space it was a dated U-shaped kitchen in dark timber which weighed the room down. The clients were also frustrated by a lack of storage and a dysfunctional laundry. The brief was to create a functional kitchen that feels like living in the Hamptons – luxurious, bright and beachy. Oh, and remember space for the dogs!
