An old mill in the Danviken district of Stockholm, Sweden, has been converted into fantastic flats. But with huge windows and high ceilings, they are not so easy to furnish. Here, Fredrica Myrberg, owner and founder of interior design agency Dream Design Sthlm, was commissioned to furnish a unique three-level studio.

Angles and corners. This studio has an open floor plan spread over three levels. It would be a challenge for any interior designer.
“Since there is so much going on in the layout, we stayed focused on balancing it out with neutral colours to create an environment that feels soothing,” Myrberg says.

Dining with a view. The first thing Myrberg did was refurnish the flat and swap around its functional zones.
“In this part of the flat, there was only a carpet and armchair at first. But we thought that the view of the sea and the space undeniably made it the dining room,” Myrberg says.
Classic black bentwood and rattan Thonet chairs, a simple sculptural lamp by House Doctor and a light-coloured wool carpet by Decotique create a peaceful and harmonious environment in the dining area.
“The view of the water is without a doubt the flat’s greatest merit. We did not want to take the focus off the water and, therefore, went for a consistently neutral colour palette.”

Calming grey and white. Next to the dining area is the cosiest part of the flat, which feels more private.
“It felt natural to place the social seating here. The crystal chandelier was already there, and we kept it because it contrasts nicely with the more modern furniture.”
The Söderhamn sofa comes from Ikea, as do the sideboard and lamp. The armchair is a vintage classic by Dux in a sober dark grey.

Bright space and dark furniture. The entire flat is characterised by exceptional natural light and the huge space. There are high ceilings, and the wall facing the water is almost all glass.
“When an environment is so bright, you can use dark furniture and fabrics without having to worry about it feeling dark or gloomy,” Myrberg says.
The black coffee table is from Ellos and contrasts beautifully with the grey carpet.
“In this flat there is a lot of wood in various shades. We have used carpets and fabrics to balance it,” Myrberg says.

Room for relaxation. The space under the bed was used as storage for a long time, but Myrberg immediately saw its potential.
“Now, this is a sleeping alcove with a cosy and almost hut-like feeling. If you want some peace and solitude, you just have to pull the curtain to.”

Calm light blue and green tones, underscored by the plant on the shelf, contribute to this cosy nest’s restful and relaxing feel.
Writing corner with a beautiful view. The top level used to be a sleeping loft, but in the reshuffle it turned into an office corner with a fabulous view of the sea. An armchair by Thonet and a black desk provide an inspiring place to create, read and work.
The flat is full of custom-designed solutions and details. This samba staircase is one example.
Great kitchen in a small space. “The kitchen is well-planned with plenty of counter and storage space all the way up to the ceiling,” Myrberg says.
The patio door opens right out onto the quay, just a few steps from the water.

All about the detail. The kitchen design was all about creating a streamlined space that’s easy to maintain, with a few well-chosen decor pieces adding character.
Nordic bathroom in grey and white. The bathroom has a classic Nordic colour palette with white square tile on the walls and grey tile on the floor. It’s equipped with a shower and a stackable washer and dryer, and there is a small window that lets in daylight.
“The wall-mounted toilet is a nice detail that has the added bonus of making the space easier to clean,” Myrberg says.

Very beautiful work, spectacular view! congratulations!!
Yes, in general, as said above, it's too, too white and stark for me, but I adore the timber kitchen, and the bathroom is pleasing and practical.
Looks great but I wouldn't want to come down those stairs with a tea tray......
