My main computer is hardwired. I didn't want to install a wi-fi dongle for it and then experience interruptions and then pull my hair out. Laptops, tablets and smartphones get to use whatever wi-fi signal is available: good in some areas, crap in others. The internet connection comes into the basement and there's a modem+router+wi-fi. Moving to the upstairs the wi-fi isn't so good especially on the 2nd floor. This is where the ethernet cable comes up through ceilings and floors from the basement and ends up in a switch with wi-fi and on to my hardwired PC. Kind of messy having the cables go up through ceilings and floors especially since they aren't lined up. But needs must.

I have no intention to turn my home into a smart home. No need to have a smart fridge, door lock and whatnot. I have a Google Home Mini which I got as a present but have yet to install it, not sure what it can do for me that I can't have using the PC or a laptop or tablet. Well I'll see about that after I finish decluttering and cleaning my office, hopefully by late spring (after taxes as well). With my luck the Google Home Mini won't work ... Wouldn't be the first time ....
