Would You Live in a Themed Home?
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and nowhere is this more evident than in our homes
So maybe you’re tired of the ubiquitous industrial style or the universally flattering Scandinavian-inspired interiors. What do you do to make your flat uniquely yours?
Houzzer Gioenne asked in Discussions: “Themed HDB: Would you do it? While most of the ‘Hello Kitty’ elements are easily changeable (linen, decor and decals), some things like cupboard colour and backsplash are a little more permanent. A theme as bold as this – would you dare?” Said Hello Kitty-themed home is pictured below, and we found four other bold homeowners whose personal preferences have made themselves evident in their homes.

From the kitchen to the bedroom and the bathroom; Hello Kitty makes an appearance via small appliances, bedlinen, wall decals, and more.

Victorian-style carved furniture gets an edgy spin in black and silver in the living and dining room, although it’s gilded and more traditional-white in the bedroom.
3. Stepping back in time in Punggol
This flat by Fifth Avenue Interior is decidedly more traditional in its Victorian style. Colours are richer and more sombre, while the furniture is ornate.

4. Cafe-inspired
This home by Ideal Design Interior showcases a cafe look. In the kitchen it’s the more common black-and-white, clean-lined cafe look; in the living and dining area, however, it’s as busy and eclectic as a real cafe could be.

5. Wallpaper whimsy
Interior designer New Nyew‘s own home is chock-full of character as she’s decked every possible surface with a different wallpaper print.

Singaporeans and Hello Kitty – everyone still remembers the Hello Kitty riots in 2000 (where a glass panel crashed onto frenzied patrons) and the website crash of McDonalds in 2013. So you better believe it that there are homes dedicated to the Sanrio cat, such as this one by Design 4 Space.
