The trellised terrace opens up to a quieter view of a magnificent existing redwood grove. A bluestone footbridge crosses a bioswale filled with clusters of ornamental grasses and perennials. In the distance, an existing below-grade greenhouse, renovated as part of the project program.

Southwest Boulder & Stone
Karen transformed her front yard with 100% drought-tolerant landscaping, using water-wise plants and a wide variety of natural stone materials. Cobble, rubble, pebble, flagstone and crushed rock were combined to create a dry streambed that adds a fluid movement to the yard. A basalt fountain water feature was positioned near the entry.
Since Karen’s home is part of a Homeowner’s Association, speed was essential to the project. She hired Laura Eubanks of Design for Serenity to facilitate the quick turnaround, completing the project in just 5 days. Design for Serenity designed and installed the beautiful landscaping and succulent tapestries, while Karen herself selected the stone.
Karen thinks of landscape rock as a form of art, considering it to be one of the most important elements in her project. She spent several hours with Laura’s team selecting the perfect boulders and materials from our Fallbrook yard. Her hard work paid off: Karen’s guests and HOA neighbors all raved about the impact of natural stone in this total yard transformation.

A passion for the Southwest inspires one couple to turn their garden into a vibrant showcase for Sonoran Desert flora.

For someone who loves to garden and has done so in many areas of the U.S., taking on the challenge of a rocky, boulder-strewn hillside lot in the Sonoran Desert is something that Carey Bertsch relishes. “I was born in Scotland but grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. My husband, Robin, is from Indiana. We have always loved everything about the Southwest. The sunny, arid climate; the lifestyle; the flora; the fauna—they all resonate with us,” she remarks.
As such, the couple, who are based in Colorado, decided to purchase a part-time residence in Arizona. They found a Santa Fe Territorial-style home that’s tucked into the base of a steep slope in North Scottsdale’s Estancia community. Populated with natural boulder outcroppings, the property’s landscape was rudimentary at best. “But we saw the potential and knew it could be so much more,” recalls Carey. She and her husband lived in the house for several years before making any major changes; they recently completed a total exterior remodel.
Colorado Vista Landscape Design, Inc.
Yesterday we finished this installation for our client in Windsor, CO. I designed this project to provide a wonderful outdoor space complete with flagstone patio, seating boulders, gas fire pit and pondless water feature. The impeccable work of Showcase Landscape & Irrigation, Loveland, CO transforms the bare ground into an amazing outdoor living space. The artistry of the team of Showcase constructs the most beautifully sounding water features. Every piece of flagstone is saw cut for perfect fit with attention given to the texture and placement of the stones. Another wonderful showcase landscape.
Hey Nice Garden
This lovely front yard has become a favorite for the neighbors and the kids! We installed 5 tons of boulders to create an alpine look and the kids can climb and play as they pass by. The garden looks great year-round and it's low water, low maintenance, fast growing and colorful.
