Mark Brand ArchitectureThe design of this remodel of a small two-level residence in Noe Valley reflects the owner's passion for Japanese architecture. Having decided to completely gut the interior partitions, we devised a better-arranged floor plan with traditional Japanese features, including a sunken floor pit for dining and a vocabulary of natural wood trim and casework. Vertical grain Douglas Fir takes the place of Hinoki wood traditionally used in Japan. Natural wood flooring, soft green granite and green glass backsplashes in the kitchen further develop the desired Zen aesthetic. A wall to wall window above the sunken bath/shower creates a connection to the outdoors. Privacy is provided through the use of switchable glass, which goes from opaque to clear with a flick of a switch. We used in-floor heating to eliminate the noise associated with forced-air systems.

Its elegant clean shape fits any environment, from contemporary to traditional. The chair is constructed with joinery technique and with the longevity symbol hand carved on the slightly curved back.

У окна мы разместили рабочую зону с вместительным шкафом с полками и ящичками, письменным столом из светлого дерева, лампой и офисным креслом. Зону отдыха оборудовали подвесным диваном на деревянном каркасе. Продолжение каркаса может служить как подставкой для декора, так и для книг или кружек. Рядом также предусмотрели круглый кофейный столик, небольшой комод и телевизор. В качестве декора, помимо растений и мягкого ковра, такого же, как в гостиной, повесили над диваном фактурную круглую картину в стиле джапанди.
C&R RemodelingC&R Remodeling constructed this studio and home office for Linda Stewart, Interior Designer. Her carefully planned design artfully blends contemporary with Asian influences. Two sets of French doors open to the exquisitly landscaped back yard and patio area. The studio doubles as a family room and has become the couple's favorite living area. The main house connects to the studio via an open but covered breezeway.
