Behind the Tea House is a traditional Japanese raked garden. After much research we used bagged poultry grit in the raked garden. It had the perfect texture for raking. Gray granite cobbles and fashionettes were used for the border. A custom designed bamboo fence encloses the rear yard.

Parking and patio areas were competing for prominence which left our homeowner with no privacy from the street. This planting berm baffles the view of the parking area and the street which allows you to sink into greenery and grasses.

This is a night time photo of an Asian / Japanese Garden Landscape that we installed. In the foreground is a bridge that we installed in the landscape, along with a blue oat grass, autumn fern and rock boulder accent. The lighting we used was the Design Pro LED line by Kichler. This compact, urban backyard was in desperate need of privacy. We created a series of outdoor rooms, privacy screens, and lush plantings all with an Asian-inspired design sense. Elements include a covered outdoor lounge room, sun decks, rock gardens, shade garden, evergreen plant screens, and raised boardwalk to connect the various outdoor spaces. The finished space feels like a true backyard oasis.

Welcome to our design space at the Pasadena Showcase House of Design. This “oasis” features a beautiful collection of koi fish, gracefully swimming in a 5’x8’ pond.
Our modern, clean-cut paver patio is customized to intertwine with large seating boulders. By bringing the pathway right to the edge of the pond, we showcase our favorite cantilever effect. Softening the design, California-friendly plants and a stunning live plant wall surrounds the area, while lights can be seen hanging from the trees, extending the ambiance into the evening hours.

We love the night and day transformation this garden took on when our client requested a zen garden for her backyard in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. It’s always fun to be asked to design a garden with so many charming creative elements. Our re-design included brown bamboo fencing to cover a very bright white vinyl fence, a fountain, loose grey stones, dark brown deck tiles, contemporary furnishings, a stone Japanese lantern statue, and white fiberglass planters. The plantings include cherry laurels, bamboo, a red weeping maple, moss, grasses, and variegated euonymus. Overhead globe lights add a cheerful nighttime touch. The images of this garden show a very detailed work of Japanese techniques. This is a classic tsuboniwa except for the input deck, and fence it was decided to make them a more modern touch, but with classical aspects of Japanese gardening.
When raised the idea, we find some problems to solve. The first was the entrance who divided the garden in the middle and the second one a large slope in the right side.
The first solution was to create an entry in style wooden walkway, that had performed zigzag dynamism and greater width to be able to move comfortably. The second solution to the steep slope, was divided in half space with a rock wall also placed Japanese style. This created a karesansui style area . Rocks were used, weighing approximately 300-500 kg each.
Access to the rear is through a nobedan (Japanese style stone way). As we walk among the ancient oaks that exist on the property, we got to the separation of the rear. Here a fence that has a door in Japanese style developed in our carpentry was created.
In the pond area, we decided to create a space where you can sit and enjoy the garden.
Undoubtedly the transformation undergone this garden has been amazing and very laborious.
