About Us

After receiving her Masters of Architecture in 1995, Barbara Rose-Leigh practiced in architecture firms until the end of 2000. Since 2000, Barbara has been a sole-practitioner, designing smaller scale residential & commercial projects. To make people happy not just for a brief moment, but every day, is the driving inspiration behind Barbara’s work. Her clients have told her they just sit back and stare at the space because it is so beautiful. For Barbara, that is the most satisfying part of each project—the homeowners’ satisfaction! She loves incorporating natural lighting and environments that support healthy living and engagement. The details where things function well and support the way people live matter—everything from the plug-in locations to the size and shape of countertop space can make our lives easier. Barbara puts immense effort and thought into each micro-level detail. A home is a personal sanctuary, and every space can evoke emotion and promote intimacy and interaction. Rose-Leigh Design creates unique, creative, and functional designs for homes that provide beauty and balance. A note from Barbara: When the fire chief had us draw our floor plans in fourth grade I realized I was looking at the blueprint for my career. For me, every line has meaning. In the rigor and exactness of drafting, lies the possibility of creation. The results are never just my creation. The greatest compliment I have ever been paid is that I listen. I listen to people, to needs, to possibilities. I really try to understand every pattern, every influence and draw out a design solution I know to be efficient and dynamic, but not to impose my personal aesthetic. I am overflowing with ideas all the time, yet what fulfills me is the confident voice that emerges from true collaboration.

R & D Grant

Working on a kitchen remodel and covered porch project with Barbara Rose Leigh was a wonderful experience. We loved the creative process where we saw first hand not only her creative design talents but also her architectural background. Her design is so usable and well thought out that each time we cook or entertain, we think back on the decisions we made in the planning process. Communication was great throughout the process. She was available if we or our contractor had questions or needed guidance. We are thrilled with the result and would use Barbara again without any hesitation.

We loved working with Barb on the very large remodel of (what was) our very small house and we love the results! She designed a beautiful, livable space - form with function, seamlessly combined. During the design process, Barb was always open to our ideas and respectful of our budget constraints, even as she never sacrificed the aesthetic ideals of the project. Instead of a teardown, she preserved a portion of the original home and expanded the footprint on a single level - a decision that saved significant cost and resulted in a lovely open flowing space. She supported our choice of IKEA cabinets and integrated them perfectly into the kitchen design, another decision that saved significant cost and looks great nearly 10 years later. I'm so happy every time I walk through our front door - thanks Barb!!

I am bias because Barb Rose-Leigh Design is exquisite! Barb designed my house in 2005 and it was completed in 2007. To this day, everyone who visits my house for the first time says that it is the coolest house they have seen! Barb envisions every angle of the location, whether it's a remodel, or piece of land and she incorporates her gifted architectural talent. In addition, Barb is an optimist and she places all of her positive energy toward creating beautiful and functional spaces that ultimately work for her clients. She is simply amazing!

My husband and I are so grateful to Barb. She has created the perfect home for us---not only is it beautiful and gracious, but it’s a space that feels good. We purchased our condo for the locale and views, but it was in major disrepair and had a small, dysfunctional kitchen and disjointed floor plan. We were stumped on how to overcome the constraints of the unmovable water pipes, exhaust vents that ran through our unit and awkward wiring—all in a concrete structure. We interviewed 4 designers/architects and were immediately drawn to Barb’s philosophy and approach---she focused on the overall flow and the relationship to the outside environs. In the end, not only was she able to work around the constraints, but she created a plan that functions beautifully. Her close attention to perfect alignments and small details turned a once-haphazard layout into a well-designed and purposeful space. Working with Barb was great, too. Through the process, she created a very collaborative relationship with us while guiding us with her strong vision. At moments when we’d get nervous about our decisions, she’d spend time to work through the issues with us. During construction, she was quick to swoop in and solve problems when unexpected issues arose. She feels like a friend, and we’re so happy her mark is on our home.

We have a 60 yr. old house that was in need of a complete makeover. It was a big project so we did it in stages while we lived in the house. Barb was very good at working at the pace we wanted to go. Also, we had a lengthy laundry list of requirements and she managed to fulfill all of them!! She is truly a master of designing "human scale" spaces. Here creative energetic style made the process fun and exciting. A trait that turns out to be very important when the going got tough. Our house turned out amazing and beyond our expectations. Would definitely work with her again on future design/remodel work.

Our project turned from kitchen remodel into major structural remodel when we decided to open up our space and remove load-bearing shear walls. Barb listened to our wants and needs, and created an amazing plan for our new space. Our space is much more functional and fabulous with her assistance. Barb thinks about things you would not think about, and brought many unique, creative design elements to bear in this project. We plan to use her services again when we remodel the master suite.

I have hired Barb for some small projects based on her big projects that I have seen. Her homes always take my breath away. Wherever you sit or turn your head in one of her modern homes, there is beauty and balance. Her designs are very modern and clean yet still have a sense of intimacy and balance. Love her work. Talented architect with tremendous understanding of a busy family's needs and flow in a house. Her designs are beautiful, lasting, and very functional. We hired her when we drove past a project she was working on which we loved. Barb happened to be there and we started talking. She rescued a project started by another designer which had been a disaster. We have referred her to other friends who are equally happy. All of us now have a long term relationship with her and would not trust anyone else.

We have had great experiences with Barb. We first hired her to help us remodel our kitchen in our 1960s house. Unlike, the first architect we interviewed, she brought a unique view to the project and opened our eyes to design possibilities we had not thought possible like being able to add an island or having a window behind the stove. I love standing at the stove and being able to look out over the trees. She has an incredible understanding of function without sacrificing the aesthetics. We love our kitchen so much that we hired her to remodel our vacation home kitchen. She's a joy to work with. She is a true professional. She's become our go to architect.
