About Us

A cross-pollination of enthusiasm, obsession, and fascination with plants was the starting point for Carlton. His experience and training include a 6-semester master's degree in landscape architecture. He has 15 years of experience in landscape installation, and over 15,000 hours of study in horticulture. Each project is designed with a thoughtful balance of precedent, theory, client aesthetics, and the site's existing ecological conditions. Conceptual ideas are born and incubated through research by design, and explored through hand-drawing. Landscape precedents and case studies are used for theory and drive the creative process. All landscape planning begins with careful on-site measurement, whether survey or manually, followed closely by a CAD-drawn base-map that is used as the basis for the conceptual drawings. Through this process, the client has a chance to see and think through numerous ideas and concepts very early on, rather than giving initial feedback and waiting on a "final master or garden plan" that they may not like. Our goal for each project is to fuse aesthetic beauty with ecological function. After determining the scope and specifics of your project, your lifestyle needs and budget, we'll get to work on ideas. We'll come up with several iterations for you to consider. We present our proposal with images, drawings, and renderings, so we are on the same page with you moving forward. You and your site drive our designs. We do not start any project with a preconceived notion of design, plants, or program.
