It was my happiest time in my recent years when I was selected to work with Jim Castanes on one of the most architecturally balanced between nature and technology residential project. Client gave to us all his collected through the years carefully curated trendy selections, Jim was able to understand the client's desire without following any particular trends. Their is an "unbearable lightness of being" that one could feel inside of the house. Its a sanctuary without been monotone. Jim was a friend to all of us, starting with the client, us, interior designers, contractors, vendors. He did an incredible job by keeping everyone happy! And the result is obvious, the house is a happy place, it has an amazing energy. We are planning to photograph it this summer. Look for the publication in Wired and World Interiors.

I got the the great opportunity to work with Castanes Architects & the homeowner on a lovely restoration of a classic home on Capitol Hill. I participated in a very small piece ( paint colors & wall coverings) of a very elaborate project, but I got to see the level of professionalism and ingenuity that this firm has to offer. I would highly recommend them for any size project.

Great firm to work with. Jim Castanes is a very creative architect. He listened to our goal for our project and provided us with a very interesting plan. We were able to stay within our budget by designing some unique solutions while staying true to the original design. Jim also helped us select our contractor who turned out to complete the project on time and under budget.

Jim and his crew worked with us to revamp our 1914 craftsman through several phases into a much more contemporary, attractive, and valuable home. His team was proffessional, knowledgable, and very creative. My wife and I look forward to working with them again, hopefully as new construction so our project with them can really shine like the rest of their portfolio. Triple-thumbs-up, if thats possible.

I hired Castanes Architects for a design and construction management of a new single-family dwelling. With Jim Castanes, you get to work with a small firm with plenty of personalized attention from the principal. Yet with their long track record and a history of many client referrals, one does not need to worry about the firm's stability. Jim does a great job of listening and communicating with clients, and a big plus is that he is not dogmatic about pushing for 'his' particular style of dwelling but puts the clients' wishes first. His services do not come cheap, but his pricing structure is very straightward, and invoices were always transparent. Enlisting his trained eye in selecting a high-level GC and managing construction was also a big plus. When I spoke with his references at the beginning, many said that after the whole process, they consider Jim a friend. With this I would totally agree.

Jim Castanes is an unbelievably imaginative and outstandingly creative architect in all regards. He patiently guided us through the space planning phase and then articulated our vision to create a modern day 18th Century Italian villa. He helped us select the perfect builder with whom he worked shoulder to shoulder to produce a timeless home that may last for centuries itself. Virtually all of the thousands of people who we have hosted over the years have raved over not just the beauty but the substantive quality of our dream which Jim helped bring to life.

Castanes Architects were willing and committed to achieving the goals of our project beginning with our first conversation with Jim. They listened carefully to our wishes, worked well with our builder and achieved an excellent outcome. As an example the siting of the project on the property relative to environmental conditions made this a unique and stunning piece of architecture.

Jim Castanes is creative and a brilliant architect. He comes up with great ideas and also takes the time to listen to and understand the client's priorities. He has designed 2 homes for us and is a joy to work with. I didn't know him well when he started working on our project but he has now become a trusted friend and advisor.

Castanes Architects designed two restaurants for me. The experience was seamless and engaging. 5 and 7 years later, I still get compliments on the design details, and the architecture has proven to be timeless.
