He has worked well with our builder changes and we even had several stages due to HOA regulations, and he worked with the changes that were required with great ease. D+D Studio completed a set of plans for a renovation and addition to my home. Allan first took the time to sit down with me to find out exactly what I wanted. My house is small, and I wasn’t sure how to make it all happen with a 308 sq. ft addition or how I wanted the new layout to look. I greatly appreciated Allan’s expertise and design ideas! He came up with an amazing plan that included a pantry, a new and improved full bath, a second full bath, a new hallway, 2 walk-in closets, 2 new linen closets, a desk area for my daughter, and a new master bedroom. Construction just started, and I'm excited to see the finished product in a few months. Throughout the design process, Allan was very responsive. He had endless patience for all of my questions, answering each quickly and making changes and tweaks right away. He treated my plans as if they were his only project. He was a pleasure to work with. We started looking at house plans online and in various books. We came across one design that we both loved. We were considering figuring out how to buy the plans online. We figured that we may need some help in getting the plans modified so my husband looked for an architect. He found D+D Studio right here on Houzz. He was impressed with the photos, so we set up an initial meeting with Allan. We could tell from our first meeting that we would like working with him. He gave it to us straight and we didn’t feel like any of our questions were mundane or silly. He educated us on our request with the plans and of course, he said it could be done, but after hearing what that all really meant and things we had to consider, being that our property is near water, we decided to just go for it and get a completely custom designed home. He listened to our needs and we expressed that we wanted to make sure our house is designed to the point where there are no pointless areas or wasted space. We gave him our wish list and let him do his design magic. And that he did! It was amazing to see our requests translated into the design that he came up with. We definitely can’t wait to see our house when it is built. We appreciate Allan’s high level of customer service and his expertise. Being that this was our first house being built (and hopefully our last) we were nervous about the process but working with Allan has eased our mind. We were overwhelmed before we met him, and he helped to reduce that significantly. We feel like having him on our team helped us gain the peace of mind we need for something this big. Alan was great. Very professional and understood what me and my wife wanted. He designed our a master bath and also designed me a shed for the back yard. Asked a few people for recommendations for an architect, as we were looking to build a new deck. Found Allan through a trusted friend. Checked his references and past projects, done. Prompt, courteous, and diligent. Met onsite, spent approximately an hour with him, throwing ideas, and requests. Received the plans and can’t wait for weather to change. I was very fortunate to have found Allan. He was very clear on the phone, was early to our first meeting, and is very professional in his demeanor. He helped me design a rather involved home addition and I couldn’t be happier with his attention to detail, and his ability to interpret my desire for the new space. Allan was very responsive and promptly worked on our project. He listened to our needs during the design process and made changes quickly and accurately. Allan finished our design within a couple of weeks to our specifications. D&D Studio was a pleasure to work with.

We are remodeling a 1969 waterfront home in Yorktown, VA. Allan Phillips of D+D Studios came recommended by our builder, who is highly awarded himself on the Peninsula. Allan is experienced and highly educated in his profession. He is a very good listener and he helped us express our vision for the property, offering insights where needed and referring to our builder as appropriate, until we thought we were all on the same page. We then refined it so to remain reasonable on construction costs. His first plan was a good one, but he wasn't so proud of it as to become rigid or inflexible. In the end we, we had a plan that truly exceeded our expectations. Allan was responsive and available via phone and email. We conferenced in the builder and also, met at the property as a group. This was very efficient. D+D has invested in technology that can quickly modify the plan and in the end produce a 3D image. This really helped us "see" the final plan. Allan remained at his original budget plan and while we made many changes, he never nickel and dimed us. D+D has experience in the specifics of county, FEMA and RPA considerations and approvals in multiple locations. We shared the final plans with a builder in Colorado, a family member. He declared Allan to be "a great architect." "His designs are really well thought out and sharp and his plans aren't full of ego and bull----, with technical notes littered all over." We really enjoyed that Allan got us a preliminary plan pretty quickly, since we were so excited. This also helped him by making changes early in his design work. We would gladly recommend D+D Studios LLC for any design job.

I would like to recognize Allan and his team at D+D Studios for the work they performed for me and my family. Allan and his team performed above expectations in the design and engineering challenges for our significant renovation. They turned a 2000 sq-ft tri-level home built in 1961 into a beautiful 4,300 sq-ft estate home that will be admired for generations. All design work was performed above expectations, ahead of anticipated schedule and within our budget. Allan was exceedingly easy to work with and was able to take our concept and fine tune it into a stunning success. My wife had a well-developed coastal home idea in her head and had even drawn it to scale. We simply needed a building designer to advise us on better design practices while not losing the original concept and then draw the final construction plans for our builder. She worked with three designers before a friend recommended Allan to us. The previous designers took copious notes but, with each consultation they deviated away from her concept towards their own independent tastes. She wanted to be advised of potential pitfalls but she was clear on the basics of her plan. Allan listened, made recommendations but kept the design true to her vision. Each viewing of the plan improved and moved her closer to actualization of the original design. We could not have imagined our house any other way than Allan designed it! He initially walked through the house with us, we told him our basic needs and then he came up with an unbelievable design. We actually did not change a thing other than ask him to add his coffered ceiling idea to the living room/dining room as well as the master bedroom. His plans and drawings were meticulous. Our contractor and many of the subcontractors commented on how thorough the plans were for the work they did on the house.
