My wife and I hired Design Farm to help us realize our dream home on our land just outside of Louisville, KY. Having never embarked on a venture of this sort, we had no idea how to proceed. They were very helpful in explaining the process, clear in their communications to us and willing to listen to our many questions, comments and concerns. Design Farm did an amazing job taking our varied (and sometimes off the wall) ideas and molding them in to a simple yet elegant and functional home for our family of five. Now that our house is under construction, they are still passionately involved. Seeking updates and answering questions that have come up promptly, even though our contract with them has been fulfilled. If you are looking to build your dream and are seeking an engaging and conscientious architecture firm, I can’t recommend Design Farm enough!

We met Emma Adkisson in 2016 when we first considered a second house in Louisville KY, our family home. We have lived in the greater Houston TX area for 30 years and had worked with other architects before that were specialists in modern home design so we were/are very familiar with the design/build process. After failing to find a lot that met our requirements for a new build, we decided to go for the remodel of a mid-century modern home just east of Louisville proper. Emma's firm, Design Farm, gave us a very competitive and complete proposal for architectural services and we subsequently hired her for the remodel project in question. Emma worked with us on the preliminary scope and helped transform our vision into working documents for the builder we eventually hired. In fact - she even helped us find our builder! We worked with Emma not just on the building specifics but also interior fitments and trim, paint, tile and other items that coordinated with our personal taste and existing palette of European furniture. The scope of our project included some significant building modifications to the front roofline to accommodate a much larger garage, an all new kitchen and 4 new baths, along with the complete restoration and/or refinishing of most all existing parts of the house that we wanted to retain. Emma was a true professional in every sense of the word. She was creative, accurate, a great problem solver and most of all - responsive to our day to day needs. I would without any reservation whatsoever recommend her to anyone considering either a new-build modern residence OR a remodel. She really hit a home run with us!

I'm a first-time home builder and the process with Emma has been great! I came to her with only a vague idea of what I wanted to do and she has designed a home I'm really going to love. From start to finish she has been attentive to my goals, patient, transparent about the whole process, and reliable.

Love Design Farm! We live on a tiny/steep lot with some significant square footage restrictions, and Emma was so willing to think creatively about how to make our addition work. Very talented designer and super fun to work with.

Emma was wonderful to collaborate with on the design of my new home. She was responsive an understanding and most of all listened and then incorporated those ideas into a working flowing wonderful design. I've been in construction for 35 years dealing with many AIA/Engineering firms both large and small and recommend her very very highly! Can't wait to start construction and post the pictures.

My husband and I bought our dream farm, however our dream house was not on it. We hired Design Farm architecture studio to design our new home. From conceptualization, to design, to print Emma was spot on. She came to the property and helped us decide where to place our home and was able to design our home to be both functional and modern. She listened to our wants and needs and was able to nail it on the first try. We were very pleased with the professional and prompt service that we received and would recommend Emma to any one. She made the process fun and easy.

Total paid to service provider = $500 Received: 1st draft of schematic drawings via email Project was terminated by service provider during design phase ("Phase 1") Number of in person/on site consultations = 1 While communicating with the service provider intermittently for eight months on design elements, I received one set of drawings via email that did not work due to the addition of a spiral staircase with poor access to a 2nd story bedroom. I did not see how a bed or furniture could be moved up to a second floor with that kind of staircase. I made this and other corrections to these drawings and sent them back. During this time, we also discussed an increase in budget to accommodate plan changes. When I sent the second $500 check to the service provider to update the drawings, she emailed me back to inform me that she was terminating the contract, suggesting I work directly with a builder to save time/money. I was pretty shocked by the whole ordeal, and did not feel like I was dealing with a pro. I guess my $500 went towards a PDF-drafted floor plan that I can't use.

We were a little nervous at first, having never worked with an architect before. Whatever our fears were, Emma has alleviated and whatever our expectations, she exceeds. Her ability to listen and translate our style and wishes to paper are quite impressive. We are in the midst of our design project with her and couldn't be more pleased. She's quick with getting ideas and designs out, she stays in communication with us, and she's very patient with a first time building family such as us. I highly recommend using Design Farm for a build or remodel.

I initially called Emma based upon her design aesthetic, examples of her work were very close to what we wanted in the look of our new home. We got a lot more than just her creative sensibilities. We had never employed a architect and Emma was very detailed in explaining her services, and how those services would benefit us through the duration of our project. From our first phone conversation it was apparent Emma was concerned with making the house we had envisioned in our head, and all the details that went along with that. One of the aspects of working with Emma that deserves mentioning is her ability to effectively explain the various aspects of the process of designing a home. For us this was important because we reside two time zones away from Emma and could not really meet in person, despite this we felt well informed at every step along the way. Overall Emma exceeded all of our expectations. The process proceeded as discussed, on schedule for the price discussed. She very effectively combined her eye for aesthetics and efficiency, with our vision and needs to design us what will in reality become our dream home. I high.y recommend Design Farm's services.

Emma at Design Farm is an amazing architect and all around wonderful person to work with. From the moment we contacted her to design our addition she was professional, friendly, and timely. Her ideas were wonderful and she worked tirelessly to complete a design that encompassed all that we wanted and more, all within our budget. Emma Adkisson is a professional architect with an outstanding creative vision. Her designs bring a sense of art to her buildings but also demonstrate an expert knowledge of the entire building process.

I had Emma help in designing a small 480sf apartment which would include a kitchenette, bathroom, bed and living space above an existing garage. She was able to help focus my ideas and vision for the space. She helped with floor layout options, roofline ideas and created working blueprints for the project. It was quite an enjoyable experience working with Design Farm.
