Emcee remodeled my bathroom and made various other changes to my condo. Mark, Kaitlin, and Jason did an outstanding job. They provided me the information and advice I needed to make decisions and guided me through the process step-by-step. They were knowledgeable, friendly, and communicative. They looked for ways to keep the project on task and within budget, while also giving honest advice about changes to the original design that would improve the final product. The actual remodeling work was done professionally, diligently, and on time. They are a trustworthy group, and working with them was a genuinely enjoyable experience.

We used emcee for both architecture and build. Our project included a basement build out, garage + mudroom addition, two bedroom plus bath addition, kitchen remodel, and extensive renovation work around the majority of the rest of the house. Mark was the primary architect and he worked with us over several months and many iterations to develop plans that were what we wanted and within budget. We felt that they were the most knowledgeable about our project and decided to go with them for build as well. Jason was our primary project manager and Mark was there every step of the way as well. The attention to detail and quality are great. They are responsive to e-mails/texts/calls and were willing to work with us on modifications (either because they were needed or we changed our mind.) We had water issues the day we moved out and they were very helpful in resolving those as well. We moved back into our house 6 months after "breaking ground" which was on schedule. There were still some "punch list" items that lingered after we moved back in but nothing that prevented us from living there. We would recommend them to others looking for a house renovation/addition!

We worked with Mark and Jason on a full renovation of the first floor of our row house to include taking down walls, installing new cabinets, flooring etc. Both Mark and Jason were incredible responsive, communicative and helpful in making architectural and design decisions. Their prices were fair and they worked within our budget. They followed up after project completion and I would absolutely recommend them for any project. They helped us realize our dream home and we continue to marvel at how beautiful they made our home. Cannot recommend them highly enough for their service and results!

I worked with Mark to take a small, 1 bed/1 bath, 700 square foot, outdated, 1920's home into a pretty amazing 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath home. I met with a few architects before Mark and none could really bring my ideas of the space to fruition. Mark did an amazing job fitting a lot into a tiny space, all while dealing with a lot of zoning issues from Arlington County. I'm really grateful to have met Mark and to have had him create a space that I can call my home.

We engaged their services to design a new 1st floor layout of our Capitol Hill townhouse and the refresh of two 2nd floor bathrooms. They listened to our vision for the space and then provided us with a number of excellent design options. Additionally Emcee design worked with our contractor throughout the construction and re-model process. They periodically had site checks to ensure construction was kept to schedule and to quality check the work being carried out. I thoroughly recommend this for peace of mind!

We hired Emcee Design for a full renovation of our home, and couldn't be happier. Our architects, Taylor and Mark, were extremely collaborative throughout every phase of the process. They listened to our specific needs, and ultimately produced plans for a home that is beautiful, functional and exactly what we wanted. Equally important, Taylor and Mark provided extensive consultation on design selections, and stayed involved through the construction process. As this was our first experience with a large-scale renovation, their help and guidance was invaluable. Both Mark and Taylor are very easy and pleasant to work with, generous with their time and extremely responsive. We recommend them highly!

The architects at emcee design, Mark Cerny and Taylor Scott, were critical to the successful completion of our home's second story addition and first story renovation. Mark and Taylor started with our long list of requirements and nice-to-haves, took time to learn what we wanted to achieve and our sense of style, and then offered many outstanding design recommendations to enhance our original vision. Their collaborative approach was exactly what we needed. Mark and Taylor continued to provide value through the build phase, where they served as our advocate during the few inevitable construction and finish issues. Working with the builder, they ensured the plan was properly executed and that the final result was something the entire team could be proud of.

We live in a historic district in Washington, D.C. and wanted to raise the roof on our attic in order to get as much usable space as possible. Our realtor recommended emceedesign, and we could not be happier with their service. Mark Cerny designed a unique, V-shaped roof that expanded our space without violating the height restrictions and that blended in perfectly with the Victorian houses in the neighborhood. He created a very bright and open area by combining a wall of windows with overhead skylights that make the area seem much larger than it is. Almost as impressive as the design was the manner in which he shepherded the project through the permitting process at both the historic board and the DCRA. He told us what to expect at every stage and recommended the perfect contractor to do the work once the permits were issued. Mark and his team were an absolute pleasure to work with. I cannot recommend them highly enough for work in the District, particularly with unique or challenging projects.

Mark was critical to the successful renovation of our 1925 Arlington bungalow. With little notice, Mark who was referred to us, worked our project in to his schedule. Mark helped us transform old dated layouts in to functional space while keeping within the tradition of the home. By working closely with our GC and being on site throughout construction, Mark helped find and address unexpected structural issues. His ability to explain the rationale behind design options and his knowledge of the county building codes and administrative process helped us stay on-time and budget. Mark stuck to deadlines and remained responsive to our concerns even after the project ended. His professionalism and matter-of-fact communication style made it easy to work with him and make unbiased, informed decisions. We would work with Mark again in a heartbeat and can strongly recommend him to others.

Mark has done quite a bit for me: 1) A full house renovation in LeDroit Park Before: http://tour.homevisit.com/view/62489 After: http://www.homevisit.com/mlsTour?ver=1&id=65111 2) A full renovation of a 1500SF condo in Wesley Heights. 3) Plans for a full renovation of an 1866 townhouse in Georgetown. Mark completed the plans, worked with DCRA and the Old Georgetown Board/Commission for Fine Arts, and obtained approval and permits for the project. It was a huge amount of work and required a great deal of skill. I have always found Mark to be helpful, knowledgeable, and willing to work hard. He is a good listener, has good ideas, and — I think most important — he has an understanding of space. I would not hesitate to continue using him for future projects, and have been quick to share his name with others who are in need of architectural guidance.

Mark has been a wonderful architect and consultant for our home renovation – without reservation, a five star recommendation! He has a keen eye for detail, and is very knowledgeable about building codes and structural design. For our project, Mark created multiple 'visions' for our home after taking the time to meet with us and viewing the space. We found that Mark took great care to explain the pros and cons of each vision in a clear and detail-oriented way. It was also very clear that Mark had really understood our needs and goals when creating each vision. Moreover, he is very patient and very practical.
