I had the opportunity to work with Georgi at Colors of Life during a very transitional phase of my life. Recently divorced, with my two young children after many years in Montclair NJ, my new home in Manhattan needed to personify more of me, while not breaking the bank.
After a 2 hour session of lifestyling questions related to life direction, change and uncovering that which no longer served my future vision -- we came to the core of our mission, "Leveraging this transformation to open up possibilities in my work and personal life as the true ulterior motive to our working together"
Infused by a love of Kelly Weartsler's high style and my own collection of eclectic belongings, Georgi proved the sounding board to each decision. As the executor of each project, and with her small team of handy craft artisans and electrical wizardry, we began by choosing paint and color. To depict the mood and atmosphere of the room, we began each session by reflecting on what we wanted to ultimately feel in the finished space. Over a 7 month period, while preserving the classic 4 bedroom upper west side home - each day brought forth ' the house of Dior' -a gem with grey hallways and white intricate moldings, a bright tangerine kitchen trimmed in silver and inspired by Hermes gift boxes, one charcoal mystery bathroom highlighted with canary gloss and another one the green of malachite. Bedroom walls were Ralph Lauren powder suede technique while my vintage silk fabrics were used to reupholster an old dressing screen, creating an ultra romantic, crystal beaded, chandelier draped Victorian boudoir.
During this period I was commuting weekly to SF, and upon opening my front door would be tickled pink to find things coming together. Finally my beloved chandelier was hung over the dining room table (NY pre-war apartments often don't have electrical access from the ceiling), and the new ultra cool lamps I found in Tribeca lightened the entrance. We added flare and touches, while additional great vintage items were sourced by Georgi on a shoestring budget, making me feel 'rich' again. Throughout the entire transformation process the conversation and mode of creating reflective space inside and out, always evoked a feeling of possibility and positive change. I often said to her that it felt like apartment therapy -- and this was far before all the tv programs that soon transpired on this topic.
This unique life experience and service although Included interior design elements, color sensibility, and space reorganization, was much more. Guided by Georgi as a life coach, a healer, a sister, a listener my dreams and wishes were supported and manifested. To this day, this was my favorite place to live, and my kids loved it too. While living in this transformed space, within the following year, new love found me. I met my new husband on match.com. and my inner dreams transformed into a new life reality. ... And yet another move!
