About Us

hsMAC Design is a full service design firm specializing in mid-high end residential projects. My mission is to create interiors that are timeless, warm and original to you. Over 25+ years I have developed a passion for design from different eras, origins, cultures and styles. My understanding of scale, proportion and color leads us to a harmonious, clean and warm residential environment. I have designed, renovated and redesigned high end residential projects throughout our great city. I love all aspects of design, from working with your architect to create your best home, to choosing accent pillows and art to finish off that almost perfect space. My creative process begins by listening to my clients, then contemplating how design can make their lives more beautiful. The beauty is in the details: lightness, flexibility and cleanliness. I believe I have a responsibility to inform my work with integrity based on those values. I create interiors that feel comfortably sophisticated, rich and relaxed... SCJ Studio Landscape Architecture

Working with hsMAC Design on a recent project was really fun! We collaborated on a very modern new home in the Seattle area. Heather transcends your every day home remodel/ new construction/ spec home build designer. She is a refreshing, honest to a fault designer who brings extensive years of knowledge and creativity to a jobsite. She spends time LISTENING to her clients, provides great overall vision paired with a beyond fair quote for her services. Often I have found she delivers beyond what she charges, which is so rare in a field that many contractors find to be a service over priced. Her design's are coupled with pricing structure knowledge, which is great for the jobs that are on a budget but whose clients need to "achieve" that champagne design. There is no "revisiting" the design because she out priced her finish selections. This is huge on remodeling when schedules are so paramount. Her friendliness, kindness and genuine nature brings a warm spirit to a work environment that can become so overwhelming for many due to the number of decisions that have to be made; if course details are what matter to you! If they are, then Heather is the Designer for the job!

Heather has helped me with numerous design projects over many years. Her vast experience, knowledge, and artistic eye always makes for an attractive space that draws many complements from guests in our home. She is patient, flexible, and is good at finding more cost effective ways of accomplishing the same look, if that is a priority. The very best part of working with Heather is her personality. She is comfortable to be around, never pushes, has a sense of humor and is just a really nice person! I would never redecorate a room without her help. At present, I am remodeling a bathroom and the company doing the work provides an experienced designer as part of the contract. Even though that is included, I will still have Heather look over the choices I have made because then I will be absolutely certain everything is going to look great!

Heather is the BEST! She is truly talented as far as helping you narrow your scope of a project. She is brilliant with her color choices in all parts of the design process but especially with paint selections. She will meet you anywhere to help make the final decisions and work with you with thorough explanations of the entire process. Big or small project, she can handle it and make you seem like you are the expert when done.

We have worked with Heather on several smaller projects, all with great success! I have worked with multiple interior designers over the years and Heather brings a refreshing perspective to a project. She can quickly bring a project into focus, assessing what is needed, whether it is color, texture, size/scale of furnishings, spaces, etc. She really listens to what I (the client) am looking for and gathers information/ideas/products that suit ME. Heather has a knack for making an overwhelming project feel "easy" - and makes the process fun!

MW Design Workshop

We partnered with Seattle interior designer Heather Macmillan from hsMAC Design this past spring on a beautiful remodel. Working with her was a privilege and a wonderful experience. The stair we did for their project fit perfectly in the existing context of her design language, and her overall theme help true throughout the home. She was prompt and a great communicator, helping us to execute our part so the project stayed on-schedule and pleased the owners immensely. We would relish the chance to work with her again!

Nip Tuck Remodeling

I had the opportunity and pleasure to work with Heather on a recent master bathroom remodel. The client had worked with her many times over the years and I witnessed the high level of respect and trust her clients had for her. Heather is a creative, dynamic designer and continually guided the design and selection process with great skill and patience. We spent many hours together discussing the smallest details so that the end result would be just what our client was dreaming of - a classic, elegant master bath. I appreciated that Heather was not only a great listener and was able to capture the client's vision, but she also has the technical knowledge to understand the construction process and how the craftsman bring her designs to life. I look forward to another opportunity to work with Heather.
