Best decision we ever made was to have MRH build our retirement home. We knew they were the right choice when, at our initial meeting, Joe said they would be building our last home, the one we worked all of our lives for. And, indeed, with Michael’s infinite patience with our design ideas, they built us a rock solid, beautiful home that we love every day. Quality of work was top-shelf, and importantly, so was our working relationship with the MRH team. Five years later, we still trade Christmas cards - and that should tell you something.

While sitting with Michael Grant and talking about our vision, coming to life in front of us was an incredible concept sketch that led to our final build shortly thereafter. And Michael and Joe have the best contacts in the business for each part of the process. Joe brings experienced craftsman to the build team that work to produce your vision in tandem with Michael's direction. They are both part of the entire effort and produce an extremely high-quality home. We wouldn't change a thing. We have referred many potential clients to Michael and Joe and will go back to them ourselves if we build again.

We are very pleased and excited about our new, Modern Rustic- built home in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Georgia. It is now our permanent retirement home. From our first meeting, almost 36 months ago, everyone at MRH, starting with Joe Folsom, who was our agent for purchase of the 40 acre farm where the house is located, and ending with some minor, post-move in “punch list” work, worked at the highest levels of professionalism and met our expectations. Architect Michael Grant prepared the initial design and worked closely with us in revising and updating the initial design, both before and after we signed the final construction contract. During the course of construction, both Michael and Joe Dixon, general contractor, acted responsibly and promptly to consider and implement our agreed change order requests, such as adding a wonderful upstairs room, with dormer windows highlighting the view; adding a basement fireplace; and finishing two basement rooms (including the den with the fireplace) that had not been included in the preliminary plans. The on-site work was carried out by true, professional craftsmen using building techniques and very high quality materials typically not found in a North Georgia mountain home. While the construction process may have taken longer than we had hoped, we were glad that our custom home was constructed with “tender loving care,” to the highest standards of construction, when compared to a few homes in the area that were started after ours and completed before ours. A professional developer and Atlanta builder visited during the course of construction, complemented the work then in progress, and said, “I wish I could afford to build my retirement home to the standards of this one.” Everyone who has visited since has had high praise for our spectacular home. We highly recommend Modern Rustic Homes as the design/ build contractor for your “dream,” mountain home.

The project started well, the designer and subs have been great, though some issues have arisen. A final review is pending project completion.

We are extremely happy that we hired Modern Rustic Homes to design and build our cabin in the mountains. Every step of the process they were very professional, knowledgeable, patient, understanding and helpful assisting us with the build procedure. They are also knowledgeable and helpful with the financing aspect of the project. The companies they suggested we work with to purchase products from, were also friendly and helpful to us. When the house was being built, and all aspects leading up to the start and thru completion, there was a feeling that the house was also theirs. They looked at the project as if they were building it for themselves. If they felt that something didn't seem right, maybe should be a different way, they made suggestions that so often were spot on right. They were not pushy, their suggestions made perfect sense and looked and felt great when it was done. The experience was truly rewarding with this company. We were out of state homeowners, but when and if we needed anything, they were only a phone call away. Even if it was just to answer a question we had. I highly recommend this company to anyone who needs an experienced, knowledgeable and personable contractor/builder/architect for their project. Large or small projects, they treat everyone with the same in a warm, friendly manner.

We began looking for a builder who would build us a custom mountain home. We wanted details and design different from the average mountain home. While visiting the Log Home show in Atlanta, we found Modern Rustic Homes. We were overally impressed with their style and designs of the homes. We designed our home from concept, drawings and completion with Modern Rustic Homes. The final product is exactly what we envisioned.

We met Michael Grant and Joe Folsom at the 2013 Apple Festival. Our hearts told us that they were the people we wanted to build our home in the North Georgia Mountains. Unfortunately, real estate values in our area were not conducive to selling, so we had to put our dream on hold. A year later we decided to list our Marietta home. It sold in four days! We needed a temporary place to live in Ellijay during dream construction. Weekend after weekend Joe drove us around Ellijay, Cherry Log, and Blue Ridge trying unsuccessfully to locate a suitable rental. Meanwhile, time was running out in Marietta. This is where our hearts were right: Michael, at his expense, converted one of his offices into a living space so that we would have a home. Literally, he was putting the finishing touches on the shower when our movers arrived at the door. Joe, using his personal time, configured our computer network and internet so that I could work from home. There have never been words to express our gratitude. On to dream construction! We gave Michael a scribbled drawing, from which he created a CAD drawing. Working closely with Joe, we got the best construction financing. And then we met Joe Dixon, the master who creates dreams from paper drawings. We’ve lived in their midst during the construction process, seeing them almost every day. We consider them family. Our home is one step away from completion. It is everything we wanted. But as eager as we are to live in our dream, we reluctantly leave Michael, Joe, and Joe and the little home they made for us.

My first interview with Michael Grant after deciding to use Barna ahomes to build my log home was amazing. As I told Michael what I was looking for in the design of my cabin he was busy drawing. As we continued to work together more details with his artist ideas and my veto or agreement. Michael was very quick to listen to my ideas and adapting to general design. Michael Grant, Joe Dixon the builder/contractor and Joe Folsom who works with financing were always available for questions. Joe Folsom was great providing local possibilities for financing. I knew nothing about building a house, was working alone and was able to rely with confidence on this team for guidance. Looking forward to completion of my project very soon.

MRH did an amazing job on our lake home. The home site was very challenging, with a 30 foot drop in elevation from front to back, a fairly small and odd-shaped footprint and significant build restrictions. They designed a spectacular home using every square inch of buildable land that incorporated all of our criteria and maximized the lake view from every angle. As a first-time home builder I really appreciated their guidance and extensive knowledge throughout the process -- they often thought of things that hadn't crossed my mind, or were able to improve the ideas I did have. They had experience using the best subcontractors and finest materials, and never cut corners or skimped on any aspect of the project. I had complete faith in the entire team -- from architect to build team -- that I was getting their best effort. Any issues that did arise throughout the process were handled to my full satisfaction. Their attention to detail is unbelievable -- they would redo things I hadn't even noticed. My architect visited the site one day and decided that the wooden gate that was made to provide access to the deck was not up to snuff. Without even asking me he had a new one build then repurposed the old one into a awesome piece of yard decor with our address on it. The project was completed on time once the foundation issues, which were identified early on, were resolved. The budget increased only due to decisions and changes we made as the home was being built/finished. The only negative part of the project was that I chose to use my own stone guy for marble/granite in the kitchen and bathrooms. My builder was very accommodating but the contractor I selected was not as good as the contractors my builder brought in. I should have used their guy! So I totally loved MRH -- and plan to use them again soon as I redo the basement in my primary residence.

Over the past 30 years, we have built three houses. This experience with Modern Rustic Homes, by far, has been the most pleasant and rewarding. From day one, our contact with Michael Grant has been a journey that any homeowner would relish. If we could script a perfect real estate experience, this would be it. Our intuition, after speaking with Michael for the first time, was…here is a trustworthy, meticulous and professional designer and builder. We had planned for many years to build our ideal log home in the north GA mountains and in the process, researched several log home builders. The team at Modern Rustic Homes was far and away the most professional and comprehensive group we found. We had heard horror stories from friends about bad experiences with home builders and were extremely cautious in our selection. The quality of Modern Rustic Homes work in every phase of the process was first rate. From the design phase to completion, their attention to detail was impeccable. Incorporating all of our "must haves" into our home design was quite a challenge especially with the steep pitch of our lot but the team worked with us and we love the end product.

When my husband and I made the decision to sell our beloved twelve year old cabin, we met with Joe Folsom with Modern Rustic Homes to discuss options. Joe was honest in that he explained the market situation and comparable homes in our price range. He supported our decision to sell, timeline, and selling price. Joe advertised our cabin using a broad spectrum of online and traditional selliing resources. The customers he showed the cabin to were viable and qualified to purchase our cabin. To make this selling process more challenging, we went on a ten day cruise/trip to Alaska and discovered how limited contact was at a very critical point of the negotiating/selling process. Joe was vigilant in trying to keep us in the negotiation loop. I'm sure he was chewing his nails and pulling his hair out due to the time zone differences as well as lack of cell phone signals. Once the contract was signed he was of great assistance in ensuring minor repairs were completed so that the closing would go ahead smoothly. As much as we hated to sell our cabin, Joe worked with both of us to help us through the selling process. I would recommend him to anyone who is looking to sell or purchase a home.
