Many interior decorators wish they had at their disposal a complete workshop filled with craftspeople skilled in woodworking, metalwork, drapery, upholstery and finishing that could help bring to fruition the visions they have for their clients. Nelson J. Nelson does, and for the past 12 years he has led the artisans at Emmanuel Design Group (EDG)—who hand carve, forge and craft each bespoke item—on a journey from a design and manufacturing studio to one that now designs and decorates entire rooms and million dollar homes. Nelson’s career began in a small retail furniture and décor gallery. While it was enjoyable, Nelson’s dreams and vision for the future were much bigger. During the fall of 2003, he set out to create a company with a spirit, enthusiasm and mindset that would allow him to venture into new territories for the furniture business. Nelson wanted to create furniture and designs that would be truly unique. He surrounded himself with the very best artisans and started building original designs. This garnered him the attention of local designers, including Dallas’ own Donna Moss, who starred in Donna Decorates Dallas on HGTV. Moss invited Nelson to be a part of the show for more than half of the 13 episodes. Nelson’s notoriety expanded beyond the boundaries of the Metroplex as well as beyond the confines of simply manufacturing bespoke pieces for a room. Today, clients from around the nation request the Nelson Nelson look from floor to ceiling. “We have the unique ability to create not just a piece but the design for an entire home where every element is crafted to fit the form and function of the home and tailored to each client’s needs and lifestyle,” Nelson says. “Everything we create is custom made to fit the personality of each client.” Whether it is the company’s trademark Gothic look, with regal themes, spiritually inspired creations or the more modern stylistic spaces, EDG creates home interiors and custom furniture with modern sensibilities.
