Christine May Interior Design

Christine listened to and asked us relevant questions with regards to the complete revamp of our flat. She identified what would suit us best ie functionally and aesthetically in order to transform our flat. We were impressed by the fact that all the building work was done on time and on budget. All in all we are very satisfied with the way Christine tackled the job and we now have a beautiful flat. We are very pleased with the result.

My husband and I bought our 2 bed flat in Narrow Street, Canary Wharf because of the wonderful river views and great location. But it was desperately in need of complete makeover having been built 12 years previously and not touched since then. The fixtures and fittings were old fashioned, on their last legs and badly designed. We promised ourselves that we would refurbish it but kept putting it off, as we didn't feel confident enough to design or project manage it ourselves. I was terrified of being ripped off and finding builders and electricians that were reliable and good. We knew we needed someone to take on all the stress and project mange the renovation for us as well as design and fit the space. I knew roughly the sort of feel and look I wanted but where to start and how much to spend etc? Then we met Christine who was at the Grand Designs Live exhibition giving advice to people exactly like us, who needed help and guidance on how to go about such a project. I immediately liked her, she sounded practical, informed, and reliable and she also listened. We decided to use her (rather than find someone else) as our own personal interior designer who would oversee the whole thing from start to finish and would be hands on all the time. Of course I had reservations, we had to trust her with our hard earned savings and believe she would see the whole thing through. But I needn't have been concerned she was brilliant and talked at length about our likes and dislikes but at the same time gave us ideas that we never would have considered. After much discussion she produced mood boards for each room with choices of looks, colours, fabrics. Everything from the kitchen floor to the paint, bed spreads, sinks. It was so nice not to have to go around shops or warehouses looking at a huge number of choices. I loved that she did all the groundwork and narrowed each item down to a few potentials. Of course I did a bit of online research for certain things where I knew exactly what I wanted and she was always open to my ideas. What really impressed me about Christine were her contacts, she used the best. The builders and plumbers and electricians were exemplary and worked night and day to get the work done on the completion date, which was 6 weeks after the start. They finished bang on time with very few snags. And in the following weeks were on hand to deal with any of the minor changes that needed doing. We were amazed. Months after we are still so happy with out flat - it is the home we really dreamed of and more. I love having people over, they are always so impressed. It really does work for us.

She is very good at listening to our needs and is able to synthesis opposing views into a cohesive design that everyone is happy with. Christine recently tackled our odd shaped bathroom, which had foxed other designers including the usual high street specialists. She came up with a solution that was both innovative and elegant. I have no hesitation in recommending her to you and only hope that she will not be too busy working with you that she won’t have time to start our next project!

Christine started by understanding our relationship with our home and its surroundings and how we wanted it to work. The final designs showed the benefit, with innovative and sometimes challenging thinking combining both form and function. Christine then brought in craftsmen who could deliver her concepts in superb quality and with great attention to detail. We now have a home that functions efficiently and highly effectively 'below the surface', whilst being stunning to look at, with the different areas, whether for work or relaxation, all individual yet subtly linked by underlying themes. We are delighted with the result. Christine and her enthusiastic team were a pleasure to work with.
