What I thought was impossible proved me wrong! We bought a 90’s home in the Woodlands on a 8,000 SF lot that had essentially been untouched for 15+ years … several mature trees and so much river rock and roots that the backyard was totally unusable. Steve’s team created a design that was functional and within budget to create a backyard where my family could sit outside, entertain and enjoy! We ripped out everything while preserving the beautiful trees (which is what attracted us to the area). His concrete and decking subs are skilled craftsman! His landscape sub, Earthworks, was sensational and upgraded our irrigation system and revamped the drainage, and installed the low maintenance / hearty landscaping we desired. We are very pleased with our beautiful new backyard!

Excellent job by Steve and his team! We wanted to add a pea gravel slab and cedar arbor to our pool area. We had four contactors come out and bid the job and he was very competitive on pricing. We had a good idea of what we wanted, but we also wanted a contractor that would use his experience to make recommendations to get us the best outcome. Steve was very helpful in the design phase and patient with my detailed questions. He made sure we were both clear on the final outcome and how some of my concerns would be addressed through the build process. I was also happy with how his team cleaned up at the end of each day, even though they were not finished with the job they cleaned up their tools and scraps, so it looked as nice and tidy. The arbor absolutely exceeded our expectations, and he created the space we had been wanting for a while!!

Excellent job. Unlike some corner cutters around town that gave me quotes, Outer Image Design made sure everything was done by the book and to my satisfaction. I ended up with a completed job that exceeded my expectations. You cannot go wrong using them on your next project.

We hired Outer Image Design (OID) in the summer of 2011, for a pergola, patio, and fire pit project. That project was very successful. We were always complimented on the overall design and turnout, and this was due to Steve's creativity. Fast forward to 2020; we decided that we wanted to change the pergola out for a covered patio. We had multiple contractors price out the project and decided to hire OID again. Steve’s pricing was competitive; besides, his design and attention to detail are what made us ultimately chose OID again. Since our original pergola was still structurally sound, OID recommended keeping the main structure and only removing the top pergola portion to build the vaulted roof structure. This was a huge cost saving for our budget. OID took care of all of the drawings and permitting with The Woodlands. As soon as we received approval, they worked with us and the pool contractor to set a schedule, site access, and overall coordination so we could complete both projects on time. There were roadblocks with typical weather and the OID crew was very accommodating and continued to keep the overall project in line. Any questions that arose during the project were addressed directly by Steve in a timely and professional manner with a thorough explanation. Again, their pricing was fair, their service was top-notch, and their creativity and problem-solving ability were exactly what we needed for this project. Thank you, Steve

Steve did a great job of listening to what we were trying to do with our space and came up with a plan. His team did a great job of putting it all together. The only hiccup in the project was an iron gate that took longer than it should have, but that was not in his control, nor his contractors. We know that the value of our house has increased with this upgrade to our deck and patio.

This was our second time we used Outer Image for an outdoor kitchen construction project, if we ever move and need another they will be the only call we make. Steve and his team at Outdoor Image did an outstanding job without our Outdoor Grill Build and Back Door Replacement. The project was completed in a timely manner, with professional courtesy throughout, and on budget. One reason we wanted Outdoor Image was because of their outstanding work constructing our Patio Cover in 2005. We were concerned their bid would be too high, but their estimate actually came lower than competitors, making it an easy choice. Another concern was that our project could seem a little small, considering other projects they do. But Steve is 110% customer focused, very accommodating to our desires, with very quick response to questions, and making every effort to satisfy. We could not be more pleased with both the process and the outcome. We can recommend them without reservations.

Steve and his entire team are professional, personable, always on time, and communicative. Steve was very patient with me as I changed my mind again ... and again ... and again on what I wanted. If something wasn’t just right, he made it right immediately. We had a wooden deck ripped out and replaced with concrete and his design completely changed the look of our back yard. Now of course I want the rest done and I will absolutely use Steve again! He’s the best!

From start to finish our patio and pergola project was handled very professionally and efficiently. Steve Nedd and Mandi Dalton were very pleasant to deal with throughout the project and communicated with us on a regular basis to make sure we knew what the next step was and how the project was progressing. We used Outer Image Design to design and renovate our pool and back patio at our house on Lake Conroe. The project involved almost a complete rebuild of the pool (plaster, tile, coping, and most equipment), a new concrete patio and wooden back deck, and taking the balcony back to it’s original open design (the previous home owners had extended the roof line and enclosed it). We were impressed with Steve’s initial design for the wooden deck, and we liked the fact that each component of the renovation was split out and itemized. So we decided to go with them for construction too to make sure the finished product looked as good as the design. It’s now done, and the finished product is very good. The pool looks beautiful (Steve was helpful in guiding our design choices) and the work is of a high standard. That said, the renovation process was not as smooth as we had hoped and we ended up spending about 10-15% more than the initial budget. It also took about 6 months instead of the forecast 3-4 months. Specifically there were extra unexpected costs on demo (extra unseen deck layers to get rid of, a waterfall that required a Bobcat to demo etc) and we added to the project cost with some changes to the design. Some of these were our choice, but some were probably things we could have foreseen if we had spent more time reviewing the original quotes at the house, and some were probably things we should not have had to pay for (for example, pool control panel upgrades due to an incompatible new pump). In hindsight, 10-15% over budget doesn’t seem too bad for a renovation, but it wasn’t fun during when the full extent of the possible overruns was unknown. So all in all we were very happy with the results, and have enjoyed our new hot tub in this cooler weather.

We had a back patio put in, and they did a fantastic job. They were very patient and supportive with the design of the patio, and Steve was very knowledgeable and helpful though the whole process. The job was completed on schedule, and the cost of the job was consistent with the original quote. It was a refreshing experience after various issues with contractors in the past.

Steve has great design sense and created an amazing space for us to enjoy for years to come. We interviewed several firms for our project and without a doubt, Outer Image is the best. Steve uses state of the art design technology and is up to date on all the latest landscape techniques and materials. His crews were skilled and efficient and after each days work, left the area neat and clean. We couldn’t be happier with the outcome and are planning to use Outer Image on another upcoming project.

After reading great reviews here, we met with this firm back in January of this year and paid a design fee of 3.5K in February [ 2/22/18 ] for a full set of plans for our backyard and deck areas at our lakehouse. Prior to hiring them, we were given a guesstimate of around 75K... Mr. Nedds quote ... [" Okay. So, we are roughly looking at 65-75K on the back yard and side yard hard surface items (concrete, structures, kitchen etc…). With the prep and landscaping on the vacant lot would be looking at 30-35K (sprinklers, grading, sod, live oaks, etc… I wish I could be more specific but with all of the different options out there it is hard to say without proper planning and selections. I just wanted to provide you with enough info to see if moving forward with the design fee makes sense." 1/26/18] --- Steve Nedd Fast forward 6 months...it's now August and we still do not have a finished set of plans. During our first review in MAY, it was almost nothing like we discussed ( but what Mr. Nedd liked ) and we were given a rough estimate then of over 200K with add on's that were not included. Oddly, Mr. Nedd hardly acknowledged my husband and only directed his attention and questions towards me which was unusually awkward. The sideyard portion consisted of mostly grass, sprinklers, and bullrock which was quoted at over 75K. After this first meeting, we then decided to hire another vendor to install this without any plans for around 18K. SAVING us over 50K based on his unusually high pricing. We then went in for the 2nd meeting on July 3rd after jockeying for any time that was available. We actually took our GC to this meeting for support and understanding as the steep fee was only for 2D design images, not 3D --- it was VERY difficult to visualize! It was a good deal better from what all of us could tell, but we are STILL waiting for just FINISHED PLANS. We were then told at the end of July that they would not even finish the plans but we could access what they had done so far online! It was only then that I decided to warn others about this unethical firm. What use is an incomplete set of plans and 6 months of time that we can never get back? I truly can't image dealing with this company for any installation. If I can save one other family from a horrible experience with this company, then I've added value here. I'll end with what I communicated to them in an effort to get our plans wrapped up almost 6 months after paying for them. They claim they were so offended by my opinion that they refused to finish them and wished us the best of luck... ["I do not see how anyone else has been waiting in line longer than us to get a simple set of plans completed. I'm actually truly embarrassed for your firm. If Brent or I ran our businesses like this, we wouldn't have much anything that resembled a business. Heck, we can't even imagine doing something like this to a friend in which we did it for free; yet that's just our spirit of excellence. I'm sure it's not a big shocker to you that had we known it would take this long we would have taken our investment of time and money elsewhere." 7/31/18 ] Do your family and pocketbook a favor and steer clear of this firm!

The customer service is incredible and I am excited about the next phase of our backyard. The pool :) The design and landscape architecture have been great and this is much more than just your ordinary landscaping company. They build a quality product and stand behind it which is rare these days......

They built an add-on covered porch in our back yard. They were timely and professional. We were provided updates as to what was occurring and what to expect. The sub-contractors showed up timely and left the area clean. Any issues, as you would expect to come up during major construction, that came up were minor and were resolved immediately. Highly recommend this company

We recently hired Steve at Outer Image Design to add a 440sf covered patio to the back off our house. We chose him verses other companies because we liked that during the design process he helped us realize that what we thought we wanted was much bigger than needed for how we planned to use it and he was also very involved in the construction process and expects high quality for his contractors. During the entire project I was also very impressed with his communication and keeping us informed thru out the process. The project took a little longer than estimated due to weather delays but we have now been using the space for over a month and we love it. The construction process went relatively smoothly and the contractors provided a quality like they were working on their own home. They were also good about cleaning up at the end of the day which we appreciated. While there were a few issues along the way, Steve was great at taking care of anything we weren't happy with as quickly as possible. This was a great experience and we would definitely use Outer Image Design again and would recommend them to anyone.

They have done two projects for me . One was a large complete backyard redo and the other was relatively small. I am completely satisfied on both. They are professional, competent, and very easy to work with. You get what YOU want , not what they want.

Outer Image Design provided the design plans for a covered patio and then handled all facets of construction. I especially appreciated the fact that they provided an all inclusive workforce which included framers, masons, electricians, plumbers and audio/visual specialists. The workforce was very professional and the end product exceeded our expectations. Outer Image Design was very responsive to any questions we asked and promptly addressed any issues that arose during the project. Steve Nedd is very experienced and creative. We were looking to create an outdoor space in a unique section of our backyard. The roof and building angles of our existing house and garage were challenging. Two other companies we spoke with told us that what we were asking for could not be done. Steve came up with a design for our outdoor living space that blended with our house better than we imagined. The covered patio has become an outdoor extension of our family room.

Outer Image designed and built a patio cover and shade arbor for our back deck. The project went extremely well from start to finish and we couldn't be more pleased with the finished product. Steve listened to our desires and designed exactly what we were looking for, and in areas where his discretion was used, he always exceeded our expectations. He stayed on budget and stayed on time. But most importantly, he addressed any issues very quickly and very satisfactorily. At one point a mistake was made by a subcontractor who inadvertently disposed of the existing rain gutters which were planned to be reused. Outer Image took care of the issue immediately and installed new gutters at their own expense, no questions asked. I would definitely hire them again.

We added an Arbour and stained concrete to our Patio and we can't be more happier, the quality of the materials used is all premium (it's worth every dime), you can not compare to the cheap options from Home Depot or Lowes, this is a Custom setup and they will take care of every detail. I was a little bit doubtful initially because of the price difference, but once the project was done we were really impressed. Steve and his crew did an Amazing job, very professional and clean service with all the required permits. HOA was the only party that delay our Project but OuterImage Team was on top of everything. Definitely will call them again for future projects

Outer Image created a wonderful pool / courtyard for us that took almost 9 months to complete and it was exactly what we wanted. We wanted an outdoor oasis that also provided peace and tranquility in the middle of a suburban neighborhood. I feel like I'm in a New Orleans courtyard every day that I relax by the pool. The brick wall, the flagstone patio, the landscaping and the pool all came together to create the perfect place to relax and unwind.

We hired Outer Image Design to construct our outdoor covered kitchen/cabana after interviewing with and bidding to several companies. We knew this was going to be a large project as we had several trees and beds that were going to be removed, stairs were going to be constructed down to our boat dock, and we also wanted to expand the deck area and remodel our in-ground pool. New landscaping (front and back yards) and upgrades to our sprinkler system were also included. One of the primary reasons we chose this firm (which was not the low bid) was the fact that Steve created a design which mirrored the existing exterior architecture of our house so closely that it appeared to be an extension of the house although it was a stand-alone structure. Steve prepared and submitted all the necessary paperwork for approval by the Architectural Control Committee of our Property Owner's Association. All small issues and other items we wanted addressed during the build were addressed professionally, and generally in a prompt manner. I was impressed by the friendliness of all Steve's subs, and even more so about how diligently they cleaned up the area each day. I had anticipated having to take down a long section of wrought-iron fence to gain access to the back yard area; however, they navigated all equipment and materials through the existing 4' wide gate and a narrow pathway past our pool pumps, meaning our neighbors were not inconvenienced at all. Although the project took much longer than we anticipated (April-October, with many delays and stops/starts due to weather and sub-contractor scheduling conflicts), the final product reflected a very high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. We've had neighbors who live across the cove comment on how beautiful it looks from the other side or from the water. Friends and family often refer to it now as our "resort area", and it's nice to be able to use our new facilities throughout the entire year.

We chose Outer Image Design over the competition to build our cedar pergola off the house by the pool. They offered a choice of materials to suit our budget Steve was also the only one to show a spark of creativity and sophistication where our design was concerned. He drew up a CAD drawing with a beautiful curving front. We knew immediately that that was the right look for us and that Outer image was the right company to make it happen. Steve and his crew are always professional. Years later, we wanted to build a large gazebo in our side yard. We hired Outer Image again knowing that they could make the look we wanted happen. Our pergola was built in May 2008 and our gazebo was built in August 2012.

Outer Image Design completely changed the back facade of our home, adding outdoor living spaces that we enjoy every day of the year - rain or shine. The project ran on time and the quality of workmanship was excellent.

We hired Outer Image to build an arbor in our backyard to extend our existing back porch. We loved the unique design Steve came up with, an arbor with curves and cut outs instead of the traditional square structures you normally see, a fire pit and bench made of stone and brick to match our house and an outdoor kitchen that looks like it was originally built with the house. Outer Image worked within our budget and gave us a very high quality product that we love and get frequent compliments about. My wife and I had seen work Outer Image had done at two neighbor's. The work was excellent so we called them to gives us a quote on extending our back porch and adding another structure separate from the house. Even though the quote was not the lowest they worked with us to get us we wanted. We live in The Woodlands and they handled all that was need to get through the HOA. Even as the job was going on we wanted to make a change and the made it happen. They set a schedule to get the work done and kept to it. The workers came in, did they job and left the work area very clean. Because of the workmanship I have recommended Outer Image to several neighbors. After two years I wanted to make a change and I did not even go looking for someone else. I called Outer Image.

We have contracted with Outer Image Design on multiple occasions for design and construction of a large pergola, decks, patios, arbors, landscape lighting and a network of pathways and small bridges. Even with the use of stone, brick, concrete, wood and Azek decking, the entire result is totally integrated, consistent with the design of our house and achieves the end result we desired - - a natural park-like setting with multiple spaces for gathering and quiet contemplation. From initial consultation, design conceptualization, construction and after-service (replacing burned out lights, etc.), Steve and his crews were competent, careful, meticulous and a joy to work with. If you are considering any sort of outdoor "hardscape" project, I urge you to give Outer Image an opportunity to discuss it with you. You will not be disappointed.

I was in contact with Steve over several years as I planned and thought about the project. Steve never rushed the sale and just said whenever I was ready. He and I worked together on the design and he suggested some key items that added alot of value. He came in on budget and on time. His craftmen (carpenters, concrete, & mason's) were very professional and immediately corrected any issues that I came accross. We very much enjoy our outdoor kitchen and covered patio and I have no reguests.
