We hired Ken to design a family lake house that would be not only aesthetically beautiful, but also comfortable and functional. Also, we needed to utilize square footage wisely to be able to comfortably accommodate large numbers of family and guests who periodically would also stay at this home. We cannot say enough positive things about the final design or our experience with Ken Richmond and his team. Ken is not only detail-oriented, but unbelievably creative, and he managed to meet or exceed our expectations on every front. He is the perfect blend of practical and creative. For example, while managing to create a view of Lake Michigan from every single room in the house--including the apartment over the garage-- Ken was also practical, recommending quality builders and alerting us to potential pitfalls throughout the design process. Ken worked seamlessly with the builders and suppliers who also worked on the project, which was especially important as we did not live in the area while the home was being built. Ken is personable, affable, and has a professional and accommodating staff, who were always responsive and well-informed about our project. We whole-heartedly recommend Ken Richmond and would use his firm again in a heartbeat.

Ken Richmond was a dream to work with. We tore down our family cottage. The site was challenging due to the size, height and water table being close to the lake. Also, challenging was the fact that it was a family project with our sons living in San Fransisco. As a family, we agreed we wanted something "low key" that did not stand out but also was very special. Ken nailed it! It is truly a hidden gem that is absolutely spectacular. His patience, creativity and ability to define and interpret space was incredible. What a joy it has been working with him. Our cottage is timeless and will be enjoyed for generations. Ken is a master and a true visionary!

Working with Ken on our project has been an absolute pleasure. He is not only incredibly creative but is also a fantastic listener. We are designing new condominium in downtown Traverse City and while we started with a completely blank slate, we had a many specific wishes and desires for the finished space. Ken has not only successfully incorporated all of our fantasies but has done so in many very creative ways that will make our home a fun and fantastic place to live. In two very specific instances, Ken came up with genius ways to solve what seemed difficult and perhaps impossible. The first is that we insisted our kitchen be situated in a way to maximize light and view, in a location unlike any others in this multi-unit building. Yet Ken was able to craft a configuration that we love and that works with the common elements of the structure. In the second instance, we chose a 72” round dining table to seat 8 to 10 guests comfortably and that put some strain on the space available in the dining area. Ken’s solution, incorporating a curved wall that not only accommodates the table but adds a strong design element to the room, is brilliant. It also adds an interesting feature to the master bath on the other side of the wall. Recently we were away from the area for more than 2 weeks. Ken, Colleen and the staff kept things moving along and found solutions to issues that inevitably arise in the course of construction. Our project didn’t miss a beat. We couldn’t be happier working with Ken and his incredible staff. Tressa, Nathaniel and Colleen have all been not just responsive to our needs but enthusiastic, conscientious and a delight to work with.

We hired Ken Richmond , Architect to assist us with a cottage remodel . We were so thrilled with Ken's expertise, creativity and skill. We have done several large home remodels and none have been as well done or as much fun as this one. Ken and his staff were a pure joy to work with. We absolutely loved all of his clever and creative ways of improving our existing cottage. Honestly, we would love to collaborate with him on another project very soon! He is THE BEST!

We hired Ken Richmond to design a home for us about 14 years ago. There is not a day that goes by that we do not enjoy the artistry and innovation that he brought to the project.
