Karen, and her team, gave us exceptional services in designing, installing a watering system and planting our landscape at our home. Our input was integrated into the plans and when we were clueless, Karen offered choices that made the design process easy. The easy communication allowed us to know what to expect in costs and work schedules. Most importantly, our landscape looks so much better. We can't wait to see how the plants will look in the spring. The butterflies and humming birds have already found our garden.

My mother’s home has been in dire need of a full exterior landscape makeover for 20+ years. Over the years the yard deteriorated into an eyesore in a very beautiful neighborhood. Over the course of 2 years we interviewed a few landscape design firms, and while they had some beautiful ideas, we didn’t feel like they were the right company for this property. My mom heard of Sacred Space Garden Design through Arroyo Magazine as well as a few Pasadena Showcase Houses where they had provided a garden space design. She found their website and really resonated with the designs she saw online. We asked Karen to come to the home so we could discuss ideas, let her get a feel for the property, and hear some of her initial ideas. What struck us after her first meeting was that she was inspired by the space. We felt that would be important to provide a top-notch landscape. Please note, this project was HUGE. The property is a half an acre and needed a 360 degree plan. Every part of the existing hardscape was removed. Every inch of dirt on the property needed to be addressed. The project encompassed the entire front yard and driveway, the side yards, and the entire back yard. It required an all new irrigation plan/system as well as a brand new lighting design. It was not a small project. Karen was incredible to work with. She was creative, communicative, flexible and persistent in finding solutions to elements of the project that were important to my mom. We also added an additional element in that I am located in Texas, but was helping manage the project on behalf of my mom, which meant an added level of communication. Karen was more than happy to oblige. The landscape plan she designed was above and beyond our expectations. It was presented professionally and clearly. She has a unique process for helping to narrow down design and plant preferences with an online portal of a variety of photos that you can like or comment on helping her in her design process of creating something unique for each client. The execution of the project was very well managed. From the start of the 9 month project there were workers on site nearly every day (weather permitting). The workers were courteous and hard working. Karen’s husband, Omar, managed a large portion of the on-site work, especially the steel work, stone work and concrete work. He was delightful to work with and my mom felt comfortable having him on site and communicating with him. In the end the landscape that was completed was stunning, unique, on budget, and thoughtfully designed and executed. Karen and her team did an outstanding job of addressing our must-have list with great results, and were attentive to our likes and dislikes. The design has exponentially increased the value of the property and has garnered a lot of positive attention from the neighborhood.

Karen, Omar and their crew were a delight to work with. They are thoroughly professional, positive and transformed our BLAH and DATED front yard into a modern, eye-catching drought tolerant garden with new hardscape, lighting, plantings, irrigation and design. For the most part, they stayed within our budget - we couldn’t get everything we wanted - mainly because we opted to go with them even though they came in at the top of the bid chain - so we had to modify some “wants” (although we did add a few things during the project as well). Karen also modified her budget to accommodate us a much as possible. There are less expensive landscape/designers out there, but we are glad that we chose them because they are excellent at what they do AND very knowledgeable - they answered our multitude of questions before, during and after the process (and still do a year later) gladly and quickly (no attitudes) and came to the rescue when a few things went awry - and made things right. I recommend them highly, they know what they are doing and are honest, decent, hard-working people who happen to be very likable as well.

We worked with Karen and Omar of Sacred Space Garden Design over the course of two years and highly recommend their work. Karen understood our vision and translated it into detailed designs, with the possibility to adjust along the way. We started with the front yard and worked our way to the back. In the end the new landscaping included stone masonry (curving staircase, retaining walls), travertine steps, decorative tile work, new concrete patio base, travertine patio floor, BBQ island, fire pit, gas lines, a wall fountain, wooden vegetable planter boxes as well as many, many plants & trees, new soil, landscape lighting and irrigation systems. The communication was great and we always counted on Karen's take on all questions of design. Omar was on site much of the time, working with and overseeing his crew, which was great for the communication. Omars father is a master stone mason, who's skills in stone work are amazing. We could not be happier with the work they have done from the first design to the finished landscaping.

Karen and Omar turned our yard from an ugly duckling space to a lush, drought resistant, charming beautiful garden and entertainment space - in keeping with the style of our home. We knew what we wanted in very general terms. They were able to take our ideas and transform them into a vision we didn't know we had. We love our new front yard--partly sunlit, partly shaded by an old, beloved oak-- which is now filled with wildflowers, butterflies, hummingbirds, rocks and berms. The curving brick path leading to the front veranda is also a great improvement on the former narrow brick walkway framed by traditional lawn. My husband and I could not recommend a better landscape architect and garden designer than Sacred Space and Garden Design Inc. Our backyard opens on to the wilderness, and for 16 years we struggled without success to create a garden because every plant, flower and grass in our yard served as forage for the countless squirrels, rabbits, gophers, raccoons and skunks that came through. The Sacred Space Garden Design (SSGD) team led by Karen & Omar is exceptionally professional. We are just wrapping up a major, 10-month project with them and could not be more pleased. In beginning, we were seeking a designer/contractor equipped to handle all this major project entailed, and, boy, did they deliver: design drafting, hardscape, softscape, plumbing, electrical, irrigation, lighting, iron work -- they handled it all without missing a beat. Importantly, we were able to work easily with SSGD to stay on a sound budget and on a well-paced schedule. As the work advanced, design changes were handled gracefully and expeditiously -- SSGD's flexibility really improved the final outcome. As is the case with all major remodeling and re-landscaping projects, the usual "pitfalls" had to be addressed along the way ... from challenging neighbors, demanding inspectors, and unusually wet weather, to busy suppliers & sub-contractors, SSGD helped navigate all the work very effectively. Their crews were always well-qualified, pleasant, and timely -- and always in SSGD T-shirts. The quality of SSGD's work has been exceptional -- putting plants in the ground is one thing, but standing behind your work to make sure your landscaping is thriving is vital to the SSGD approach -- and Karen & Omar are standing behind their work here to this day. Their technical knowledge is exceptional -- Omar runs the crews as an accomplished manager, doing a lot of the hardscape himself as a master mason. Karen's knowledge as a landscaper is very broad -- her knowledge and utilization of plant material is well-seasoned. We were emphasizing a drought-tolerant approach in this project, and Karen handled it all well -- she personally manages irrigation at a state-of-the-art level. An unexpected bonus given Karen's former work as a professional photographer: she designs and installs lighting with a special giftedness ... a recent houseguest said of SSGD's work here: "Your house is like a movie set!"
