Timeless Elegance with Comfort and Style is Our Mission. Steven Richards and Associates, Inc. has been serving clients in the Washington, DC, Virginia and Maryland areas for over 30 years. Our style is a blend of Classic, Traditional and a bit of contemporary for punch. Our interiors are not only beautiful and comfortable, but approachable and functional as well. We have worked all over the country and abroad, from designing vacation homes to Ambassador's Residences abroad. Renovations: From simple additions to total new builds, we can assist with all aspects. We have a great team of Contractors and tradesmen that can transform your desires into reality. Consultation: We are happy to meet with you and consult on things like color, furniture placement and selecting accessories. We give you the ideas and you do the footwork. Design and Decoration: We can design your space, and have everything from furniture, window treatment, wall and floor finishes, lighting and accessorizing taken care of for you. Color Choosing the perfect palate for your home décor can be intimidating. We’ll make the process easy and fun! Layout We can provide floorplans that make it easier to select furniture that is to the correct scale for the room, as well as beautiful. We know how to design a room that maximizes and compliments your living space.

I have worked with Steve on two total home renovations (from top to bottom). Steve handled everything from the drawings and layout to the interior design to the selection of the tiles, paint, appliances and faucets. Steve brings an amazing vision, he has great taste in color and style, and he pays attention to the smallest details. There is no way I could have renovated the homes without his help each step of the way. Steve went above and beyond what I expected of a designer. He answered my questions at all times of the day, spent countless hours on each project, regularly visited the job site on his own, coordinated with the general contractor, and sometimes purchased items online and personally delivered them. Overall, Steve is a personable and great person who devotes 110% to his clients and delivers results (as demonstrated by the attached photos).

Steve is a very talented interior designer. He does not try to force his ideas on you. He will take your ideas and and work magic with them and you wii always be very pleased and satisfied. Steve has worked with me over several years and I have found him to be very professional , reasonable and honest.

I have worked with Steve on a number of projects. However, this past year was a challenging one for me -- but not for Steve? I decided to build a new home 7 hours away from where I was living. It was a joy to work so closely with him to find the right sofas, chairs, light fixtures, chandelier, etc., etc. He is so accommodating and professional. He knows your budget and sticks to it - no project too small or too large. You do not have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars if you can't afford to. I cannot say too much about his expertise, professionalism and helpfulness. He is always there when you need him. I cannot recommend him too highly!

Steve helped me while we were renovating our house. He helped with paint colors, tiles, fixtures, paint furniture and more. He made it fun and easy and not stressful. He also was conscious of price and worked within our budget. He did push me to do a few things that I was hesitate about - some wallpaper - and i love it and am so glad I did it. He really is a pleasure to work with - in every way.

Steve has been an excellent designer and guide for us as we are on the process of doing an entire, top-to-bottom decoration of our house (painting, floors, carpets, furniture, some art). He has been creative, attentive and responsive. Most importantly, he has challenged us to step out of our comfort zone and consider designs that we would not have come to on our own. He has also been remarkably patient with us through our bouts of indecision and distraction. He has given us room and respected our decisions while also pushing the project forward.

Steve is an excellent interior decorator. My husband and I met Steve when in 1988 in Potomac, Maryland we went to an NSO Show House, and liked a library that he had decorated. Since that meeting Steve has decorated 2 suburban homes, a country home, city apartments, a home in the Rockies and two homes in tropical settings. He now is decorating interiors for my sons, and is the only designer I call to freshen and update my residences. He works well with contractors, for 3 of my homes were new construction, and the apartments had major renovations. His interior designs are elegant and comfortable for young families, to very well established individuals, with discriminating taste. I highly recommend him, for we have had a 25 year partnership. P.S. Steve has always worked within my budget, and there has never been any surprises.

Steven Richards is wonderful to work with. He is calm, listens well, and easy mannered (and fun). He is knowledgeable and comes up with great ideas within one's budget and overall taste. I learned a lot just in a few small tweaks he helped me implement in several of my rooms.

I love working with Steve. He is client centered, calm, knowledgeable, a pleasure to spend the day with; and he has always surpassed my highest expectations. We started working together in 2000. He began the process by showing me several homes he had decorated. The selling point was that they were not replicas, with each home having its very own distinct look and style. The first house Steve and I worked on, I provided tons of photos and scraps of fabric saying " This is the feel I want". He did an absolutely fabulous job, with everything from colors, to fabrics, furniture. We also worked together more recently to furnish an apartment in Bethesda and a house in Alexandria and as expected everything turned out magnificently. I appreciate that he truly listened, reigned me in and patiently kept me on track. I also feel so honored to have known Steve all these years, because he is a talented, honest and absolutely wonderful person to have in one’s universe.

Finecraft Contractors, Inc. has worked with Steven Richards and Associates for about a decade now. We have a fantastic relationship which is in part due to Steve's level of expertise and individualized service which he brings to the table with each and every client we've worked with. He has a keen eye for aesthetics, layout, symmetry and cohesiveness. When he says something will be done by a certain date he comes through. Since 2008, Finecraft has had the pleasure of working with Steve Richards on several projects, each of which have been a success. You won't regret hiring him as your designer.

Steve has beautiful taste and is easy to work with. He is careful about costs as well. We have used him over the years to select fabrics, rugs, window treatments, furniture and light fixtures. Our tastes are fairly conservative and traditional, but Steve has a flair for color and helps us spice things up a bit. He has done both small and large projects for us and he is reliable and honest. We highly recommend him.
