About Us

We are a multifaceted firm focused on creating and connecting memorable environments. We have a concierge approach to design services, fully customizing our process and services to the specific needs of each project and client. We promote collaboration through many avenues. We love ALL design! We look at every project as an opportunity to establish a lasting relationship and create something new for that particular client. From new construction projects with all of the possibilities, coordination, project management, budget development, and extensive decision making to smaller scale updates and refreshes. We understand the needs of Residential and Commercial projects for both owners and investors. Kaila Kirkpatrick graduated from Harrington College of Design and founded theworKshop design studio in 2009. Understanding that urban family living has a unique set of design demands, she thoughtfully implements design solutions that to stand up to everyday life with kids, pets and entertaining yet still look great!

Kaila is wonderful. She goes out of her way to understand tastes, styles, etc. She is very efficient and organized. She takes the time to really understand what her clients vision is and then guides them in achieving it.

I really enjoyed working with Kaila at theworkshop design studio. She listened to what I wanted and needed and was responsive. She opened my eyes to colors, designs, etc that I never would have picked myself and made my home look much more interesting. I will continue to use her for future projects.

Kaila from the workshop design studio is a great in interior designer. She is smart, professional and a good listener. She really works closely with her clients to develop a plan and come up with an end result that they are happy with. She is great at space design and works within a budget in whatever way that works for the client - she can go pick things out for the home, go with the client to shop or let the client shop on their own based on the plans they put together. This makes her very easy to work with. Lastly she is very invested in the project the entire time you are crating a design with her. I felt she was just as excited as I was with the end result. I highly recommend Kaila and would work with her over and over to re-design spaces in my home.

The WorKshop design studio is wonderful! Kaila helped us choose paint colors and remodel a powder room and kitchen. She was also helped us design and choose new furniture for our family room. Highly recommend!

Kaila is a hands on interior designer with incredible design sensibilities and problem solving skills. I have worked on a variety of projects with her over the years, and most recently a remodeling project of a painfully small bathroom in a vintage building with tons of challenges. Kaila's streamlined process and fantastic space saving ideas have saved us time, money, and have ultimately transformed a space that nearly caused us to sell our place, into one we are happy to start our days in each day. She really listens and knows how to distill your ideas into the design you've always wanted, but couldn't pull together yourself. She and her recommended vendors/contractors provided excellent service & communication along the way, and we are looking forward to using them all again in the future.

Kaila and her office have great talent and professionalism. I have been so grateful for her help. Kaila has done most of the decorating in our house and kept me on track through the whole project. The outcomes of each room have our personality, are fresh and up to date, and look pulled together - yet not over decorated. In addition to Kaila's talented eye for color and style, she is veyr businesslike. She is incredibly organized and to the point. She doesn't waste any time and always helped me stay focused. I have recommended Kaila to many friends.

Kaila was wonderful to work with on the interior design project within our home. From Day 1 she was able to execute on the overall vision I had in my head! She made our place sophisticated in a way that works for our lives with two kids and a dog. We redid our floors, our doors, window treatments, our two fireplaces and some furniture. It has made a tremendous difference in our home! I highly recommend Kaila for her responsiveness, her vision and execution!

After recently moving to Chicago from Seattle I worked with Kaila at theworKshop design studio to turn my somewhat generic loft-style apartment in the south loop into a comfortable and unique home that completely expresses my personality and aesthetic. Kaila truly listens; she has a remarkable ability to hone in on what will work for my family and then suggest ideas and resources to make it happen.
